I love Drop7 and Triple Town. I'll definitely check it out. What do you need to pony up dough for, exactly? Is it consumables or permanent unlocks? aaronisaksen Member Nov 8, 2012 9 0 0 #3 aaronisaksen, Nov 8, 2012 Hi CzarCastic, I hope you enjoy the game...if you like both of those you are definitely going to like this one. Its been really addictive for our play testers. Its got both consumables and permanent unlocks, but you also earn those while playing, so you can definitely get a very good sense of the game and really enjoy on a free level. A purchase would just help you speed up and unlock new cards and modes a big faster. And we also put in Tapjoy support too, so you could do an offer or two if you wanted more. We also have an unlimited option, so you could just get everything at once, forever. Have fun! jbizzy New Member Nov 8, 2012 1 0 0 #4 jbizzy, Nov 8, 2012 Looks like Chip Chain was just featured on the iPhone! Exciting stuff! CzarCastic Well-Known Member Jan 21, 2010 2,164 0 0 Michigan http://www.8bitbrigade.com #5 CzarCastic, Nov 8, 2012 This is a really great game! Describing it as a cross between Drop7 and Triple Town is almost perfect. The biggest difference is that you can chain together more than 3 chips to create huge groups (think Boomlings) that combine into one chip that is a single denomination larger. The IAP-store-gem thing is sort of confusing at first, but so far the game seems to progress fairly well. You can unlocked unlimited everything for $9.99 USD, or for smaller amounts you can get a limited number of gems, which you can use to unlock various power ups and bonuses. It's definitely a high score game which you can buy your way to the top, so some people will be put off by this. It doesn't matter too much to me. I see it as a personal challenge to do better. The powerups/bonuses are arranged very similarly to Triple Town. There are a limited number of bonuses you can buy in a given game. Until you have spent some time unlocking everything, you'll have to spend (or buy) gems to get access to those bonuses. Again, this may be off-putting to some, but if you could handle Triple Town's payment structure, this is very similar. Overall, I'd say you should definitely check it out for free. I think $10 is too much for a complete game unlock, so I'll probably just grind away until a sale. If so I would just be missing out on the newer cards and powerups? If so then I'll definetly be giving you guys my money because this is a great game. Having a lot of fun with it. Edit: Toftt and so you do get the full mode unlock for 1.99 plus enough to unlock a good deal of other cards powerups etc. Having a good deal of fun with this. Only new game I've spent money on this week. numinous Member Aug 9, 2012 7 0 0 #7 numinous, Nov 9, 2012 Game Impressions This is a really polished and fun game. The tripletown meets drop7 comparison is apt. It is free to try, easy to jump into, and with alot of progressive depth. Eventually, you'll want to pay $1.99 to unlock all the game modes. Highly recommend, should be getting more attention! Devs, icloud support would be awesome. We'll take a look at iCloud for a future update...i totally understand how you'd like to share your gems and unlockables between devices. If you do get the unlimited gem pack, it will work on all your devices since thats an Apple in-app purchase...thats the best short term solution I can come up with for now. Thanks! -Aaron cameron331 Well-Known Member Nov 22, 2010 163 4 18 #11 cameron331, Nov 14, 2012 Game Impressions Holy cow this game is awesome! I'm been playing this for two days straight. Very polished and addictive. Not as deep as Triple Town, but that's a good thing for me because I was never that great at Triple Town. The freemium aspect is very reasonable; I've been getting enough gems to unlock upgrades. The IAP seems reasonable as well, two bucks gives you enough to unlock all four of the game modes with 80,000 gems left over. Best free game I've played in a long time. aaronisaksen Member Nov 8, 2012 9 0 0 #12 aaronisaksen, Nov 16, 2012 I'm glad you like it, cameron331! We tried really hard to make a game that people wanted to share with their friends, and got a good value out of making an IAP purchase. While no real fan of Tap Joy, if you're willing to download and run a few free games you can easily get enough gems to unlock all of the big stuff in this game! I really love the weird twists of cards (basically power-ups) in this game! Anytime you get a combo going (merge a grouping of chips into a one point higher chip and then IMMEDIATELY use this upgraded chip in a grouping) you gain a card. At the beginning you only have 3 card slots and access to the 3 most basic cards (Add 1, Subtract 1, Relocate a Chip) but with a few well spent gems you can do stuff like Erase, Copy, Match, and other fun gameplay tweaks to the chips on field. Unlike Triple Town there is only the one continuous chain of chips (not Triple Town's 2-3 separate upgrade paths), you can have as many elements in a group as you want before you decide to merge them, and you can choose exactly which of the old chips this new one will replace. But don't thinks this will be a cakewalk as, once you have the game fully upgraded, these chips can range from 1-15! Even if playing the untimed/unlimited moves of the Long Game, once you have even 10 different chips popping up on screen, it can be a logistical nightmare! 5/5 SkyMuffin Well-Known Member May 24, 2010 2,377 0 36 college student, ENG/WGS major Lexington, KY http://fromonesurvivortoanother.tumblr.com #14 SkyMuffin, Nov 18, 2012 This is absurdly fun, and I've already decided to spend $4 on it to support you guys. I couldn't agree with you more LordGek. It just keeps getting better and better the more you play. It's easier to learn as triple town but i don't know if it's less deep. I haven't played enough yet and will only be able to tell when i unlocked more stuff. I'm trying all kind of strategies to see what works best for improving my high scores and only in that it already beats triple town ,it's more flexible. The poker-esque way of having chips in your hand and being dealt and put randomly on the table gives a very good balance of betting and strategy. Wait too long to match something can ruin your set up if a chip is being dealt on a space you really wanted that chip that was 2 turns for you to play. File size, presentation, gameplay and even the IAP are spot on. Fantastc work guys! I'm thoroughly impressed. aaronisaksen Member Nov 8, 2012 9 0 0 #17 aaronisaksen, Jan 25, 2013 update and sale Hi Everyone, We just released a new update for Chip Chain, version 1.1 on iTunes.
