The strangest thing happened last week to me. I had $5 credit left in my account, but when I went to buy a game I couldn't because the $5 was already gone, without me spending it! So I checked in my purchase history to see what happened to it, and I see the name of an app called "Shagginess Momo" $4.99 there when I never even downloaded it or knew what it was. So I clicked on the app link only to read the few reviews under it and find out that other people were getting their credit stolen from them too by the app without them buying it.

At first I couldn't contact Apple because the report link was no good, but eventually I contacted them and got my money back, but I'm just posting this because maybe some of you got ripped off without knowing about it. You may wanna check your purchase history. I'm surprised Apple hasn't removed this dev and his game from the store yet.

This is the link to the fraudulent app that I'm talking about...

    http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/shagginess-momo/id402713958?mt=8

Not surprisingly its another one of those shit games that nobody would spend a penny on and isn't even worthy of being in the store to begin with. But how is this app managing to "purchase itself" on people's accounts?

Were you part of the Gawker accounts? They could be going onto people's iTunes account who used the same passwords etc..

Gawker is the group that owns several sites, that were hacked recently. If you had an account in one of them and used the same password for your itunes, then maybe that's how they bought that game with your account.

yeah I don't think so, my itunes pw is different from my others and I never visited any of those sites ever. This appears to be some kind of itunes type scam, and its happening to quite a few people as you can see in the reviews under the app, and those are only the people that noticed their credit was missing. There are probably a lot of people still out there who didn't notice their credit was missing or bother to check their purchase history.

Wow...yea, I went to check my purchase history but a-ok. And also, wouldn't the app show up in the library in iTunes to further confirm this? To be leaving those reviews I'd guess so.
Noticed it was mentioned of having just $5 left so I'm thinking an iTunes card or similar was used. Wonder if using a credit card such as I am could get charged as well. Any difference I wonder?

When I buy a game they email me a receipt, so I would see it there, right?

You should be able to, but this scam is so sneaky.. who knows? I know you'd see it in "purchase history"

The date that the fraudulent app hit the store was a month ago so if there are no bs charges on your account from November on you should be ok...for now at least.

Does it work if people have less than $4.99?

There is now another fraudulent app in the store which is obviously the same dev/company using a different name... this time calling it "Shagginess LeLe !"

    http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/shagginess-lele/id402720557?mt=8

Meanwhile Apple still has not removed the first fraudulent app "Shagginess Momo" and the "fraud reviews" from people getting their credit stolen keep coming in everyday.

I now sleep in fear. It is f*cking ridiculous apple has done absolutely NOTHING about this. This is a very surious problem and apple should be all over this.

The iTunes ratings and reviews are a shambles. Nobody at Apple gives a damn about it.
Look at any recently released app. Take Real Racing 2 for example: it says they have not received enough ratings to display an average. Yet there are 208 reviews. Furthermore, it says there are 23 reviews for the current version, even though there is only 1 version. This same horror story holds for all recently released games.

I have written to them numerous times about reviews that promote 'checkpoints', but they still continue to publish them. They lead you to believe that your review will be audited, but I've seen a promotional review for a porn site, with link included of course.

Apple needs to fire whoever is in charge of the iTunes ratings and reviews, because they are asleep at the wheel.

Agree about Itunes reviews I have only really given one bad review and it mysteriously never appeared at all it was a fair review the product didn't do what it was mean to . Strangely enough every other review I've made appeared within hours I think a lot must get censored going by that.

I've submitted a lot of reviews, and have had a few iTunes reviews not show up (not necessarily bad reviews, either), but when I realized they were not there, I went back and resubmitted the review - the text I'd written was all there, so it was very easy to do. They have then shown up.
