Ah, I see -- totally understand. I hope you find someone great (and Secret Words does seem awesome!). If you do have some time to play around with Kamcord, I think you'll be surprised at how easy it is to integrate into your app if you work with cocos2d or Unity. We've seen that users love watching authentic gameplay videos when deciding whether to download a game, so it could be beneficial to post some of those videos to YouTube in addition to your professional trailer.
The goal with our terms of use is just to make sure that we can share these videos as broadly as possible to help drive more game downloads. We really believe that engaging gameplay videos get people to buy more apps. The more broadly we can spread that video content, the more potential users will be likely to be exposed to your apps. Sorry to hear you feel that way, LinQsta. What we've really tried to do is to work with our developers to figure out how to promote their content to drive more app downloads and installs. We're not taking anyone's game content and charging users to watch it; we're simply making it as easy as possible to share gameplay content to build an ecosystem of developers and gamers who enjoy gaming and want to discover more cool stuff. We can't distribute that content without a license, but as you can see, it's non-exclusive -- you and your users still own anything you create. well my question was not made properly.. with you i actually meant you guys.. but i looked briefly over the docs and it seems any video gets automatically send to you guys.. this and the terms make this tool a big no go for me and should be for pretty much anyone who even cares abit about his data.. anyway.. good luck with your offering..
Yes, we do store a copy of every video. This is primarily because we enable sharing via Twitter and email, and we need to host the video since neither of those services can do that. We want to make sure all of your users can share their videos as broadly as possible, and that's why we provide free hosting to all games that partner with us. But please let me know if I'm missing the point! Would you prefer to host the videos yourself?
What would be worst case scenario that could occur from giving away "gameplay" video of your game? I plan on using kamcord, but your opposition to these particular terms has made me wonder your reasonings? When u say "anyone who cares about his data", do u mean anyone who cares about where video of their game will be displayed? That's the only "data" the gain afaik. Having each video recorded sent to their server seems like a great service too. It's only gameplay video, and the dev can select what partitions of the game are recordable. Please explain your reasonings, so I can decide whether kamcorder is the right option for us. From my perspective it's a great option, am I missing something?
You're exactly right -- all we store is the videos your users share, and you control what parts of your game are recordable. We are not in any way abusing app or user data.
