Xexist Well-Known Member May 6, 2010 2,440 1 0 Canada #5 Xexist, Nov 14, 2013 Lots of people think this is stupid, but I wish there was either a premium app store, or a premium section in the existing app store. To be labeled premium the app would have to be locked into the launch price for 1 year before being moved out of the premium category. Something like that. Not sure what incentive the makers of the game would have to do that though Maybe premium games could have a smaller % of their money go to apple? (Which apple would never agree to, but since they are getting a smaller % of a larger $, maybe it would work out either way)? Im just rambling now. Well, at least this makes the buckholes happy. It's a great game, and it doesnt deserve to be priced this low, but since it is, it's an easy recommendation. nightc1 Well-Known Member Oct 19, 2012 4,362 0 0 AL #10 nightc1, Nov 14, 2013 Not true. The first one went on sale 6.99-> 4.99 after one month out and it went 4.99-> FREE two months later. But yeah it did take 6 mints to try the 0.99 price point but it had several sales before that with FREE being the best deal of them all. I'm not saying they shouldn't be paid for the game, just saying the track record of this dev would make this sale fairly predictable. Often too devs price high at launch to get people during that first sale because the pressure of a sale will push many to buy stuff even I they aren't that interested. So it's not the gamers fault any more than the dev that actually flips the switch soon after launch. Heck the dev behind Super Lemonade Factory just flipped things further by offering the sequel game Free at launch to get feedback, reviews and such so the game can go to paid and have a chance among the masses. Which he did something similar quickly after the launch of the first game so it must have worked well enough to try it on launch day. biokid Well-Known Member Jul 11, 2013 931 0 0 Wop Wops #11 biokid, Nov 14, 2013 I don't really mind that kind of marketing strategy, as long as it helps the developers of these high quality premium games. Only marketing (pricing) strategies I am against are "bait and switch" and turning a premium game into a freemium one after an unsuccessful launch (or for whatever reason). If I really want a game I buy it at launch. If I'm on the fence then it's either a sale that gets me to buy it, I forget about the game, or something sparks enough interest that I actually just want to buy it and play it then regardless of a sale. In the end like DBC, I have more games than I'll ever play... and I rarely ever buy a game on what others are hyping. It just gets a little tiresome when people moan about the AppStore, people only buying games for a buck, or whatever as the cause of a sale. Obviously the dev wanted to do it and it fits close enough in line with past sales by the same dev. Whatever it takes to get the momentum going I guess because not every game is going to be a Minecraft or SurvivalCraft or one of the other few games that has never had a sale yet draws enough interest to keep plugging away and sticking around in the top 100 paid games chart (and even in the overall paid apps chart). Are you unaware of where you are, and what gives you the moral authority to judge people who choose to wait for a sale? Like most here, I'm a big supporter of iOS indie devs, I end up a bit breathless when half of the new games I buy are free or a dollar within a week of purchase, and I'm happy to support devs by buying at release price, too. But there are people who choose to wait, and while that does put an artificial drag on the iOS economy, it's also real life, and happens with everything else in the wonderful world of buying things. Sales happen, and often, devs want or have to do them. And some prefer to save money and get them when they are cheaper. Cope with it, and stop acting superior.
