It has become socially acceptable to be tinkering around on your phone all the time. Checking the web, emailing, social networking, texting. All mostly portrait pastimes, it seems less rude than turning your phone on it's side and engaging in a full on gaming session.

So here's a list of my favourite portrait titles, great for a bit of covert gaming when landscape just feels bad mannered!

Edit: I will continue to add to the list with incoming suggestions

    10000000
    Punch Quest
    Scurvy Scallywags
    Ridiculous Fishing
    Tetris
    Pixel People
    Tiny Tower
    Temple Run (series)
    Spell Tower
    Disc Driving
    Touchgrind BMX
    Flick Golf
    Nimble Quest
    Game Dev Story
    Cut the Rope (series)
    Edge extended
    Beat Sneak Bandit
    Doodle Jump
    Drop 7
    Dark Nebula (series)
    Tiny Death Star
    Duet Game
    Backflip Madness
    Spout
    Dungeonlot
    Blastrax
    Cavern
    Kingturn series SRPG
    The Blockheads
    Gurk III RPG
    QuestLord
    The Lost Treasures of Infocom
    Phoenix Wright Trilogy
    The Last Express
    SimpleRockets
Indiana Stone the Brave and the Boulder
    New Star Soccer
    Nameless the hackers rpg
    Tower of Fortune (series)
    Dungeon Raid

Surely there's more great portrait games out there? Let's find em all

Hah I never really thought about portrait being more acceptable socially but you are so right. But screw being socially acceptable!

Drop 7 is so simple yet so good. Once you learn how it works, it hooks you.

I think most of the Kairosoft games can be played in portrait. My favorite (aside from Game Dev Story) are Grand Prix Story, Pocket League Story, and Dungeon Village. They used to be a great studio for premium games but have recently caved to F2P. :(

Hehe whilst I'm a fan of screw the socially acceptable there's something a little exciting about playing a game whilst the person infront of you thinks you are mudanly txting away ... Ok I've made it sound like a perversion but what the hell.

Shame when decend devs feel they need to go F2P to keep up. I've not tried the other Kairosoft games but I'll certainly give them a crack if they are as good as game dev!

I love Drop 7 so much too, always been on my device!

Just had Dark Nebula 1 & 2 recommended to me and it's really good! Adding to the list.
Even better, the HD versions have full iphone 5 support.

I have literally spent the day at work "checking my messages" but secretly playing Tiny Death Star. Loving how big this list is becoming, not sure my watch list can cope.

Added to list thanks! Glad it's not just me that's a covert gamer ... I'll try NSSoccer ... Sneakily .... Like Solid Snake pretending to check the weather before a road trip with his mum.

Portrait or not, I don't think anyone is going to be too 'stealthy' playing 10000000. Dungelot, on the other hand, was made for subterfuge gaming.

I will add Dungeon Raid to the list, one of the greatest games to ever come out for iOS.

I've had dungeon raid on my watchlist for ages, but never really done anything about it, but if it's that good I'll not only add it to the list but I'll get it right now. Cheers
