BLAZE YOUR OWN TRAIL. *************************************************************** *************************************************************** What is procedural generation ? Core to Stellar Horizon is that its virtual galaxy, including the stars and planets, are all created through random procedural generation using deterministic algorithms. A single seed number is used to create these features via mathematical computation thus eliminating the need to create each of these features by hand. This enables the game to have a massively open nature: it is estimated that with the 32-bit seed number, Stellar Horizon virtual galaxy will include over 4 billion planets. Any player will be able to visit a specific planet once they know its galactic coordinates, given their spacecraft has the capability to do so, and find the same features as any other player, as these coordinates serve as the seed for the planet's topography and environment. I've been playing all morning, and am really enjoying it... I started a couple games (played for about 5 minutes then started over, played another 5 minutes) before reading the guide so I could have a better idea of what it was talking about. But after that initial session, the game has clicked and I'm doing contracts and buying/selling goods... Extracting minerals, ect... I'm already surprised at how big it is compared to the file size, and I know I've not even seen a fraction of what's here yet. I'm excited and optimistic about moving forward and getting into combat and whatever else this massive beast has to offer. =oD VirtualBoyFreak Well-Known Member Patreon Bronze Apr 26, 2011 4,782 71 48 Spain #3 VirtualBoyFreak, Sep 11, 2016 You should pay a visit to the main game thread here: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?p=3909541 There are many tips there for newbies, and the dev is very active in the forum thread, improving the game based on the players' feedback. tintin888 Well-Known Member Apr 18, 2016 199 1 18 #4 tintin888, Sep 11, 2016 Best game on iOS. You can also destroy transport ships an grab their cargo... I mean, it could be the developer's first game, but one thing to have in mind is to keep the UI clean, simple and user-friendly. This looks like things just slapped together with no rhyme or reason. demod1 Well-Known Member Oct 9, 2012 414 0 0 #11 demod1, Sep 14, 2016 You might want to head over to the main thread. VirtualBoyFreak Well-Known Member Patreon Bronze Apr 26, 2011 4,782 71 48 Spain #13 VirtualBoyFreak, Sep 15, 2016 Well, I admit the interface is simple: figures (circle, triangle, etc.) with a text inside which fits more or less well indicating what each button is for. Even though it doesn't have uber cool buttons, nonetheless it's functional and everything works as it should. I wouldn't know if they're comparable or not. From what I know, Star Nomad 2 is over-the-top graphics, while Stellar Horizon is first person view. Gamewise I don't know how Star Nomad 2 exactly is, sorry. Bookworm21 Active Member Jul 10, 2016 33 0 0 #14 Bookworm21, Sep 18, 2016 @Dailon80 I personally prefer SN2, although: 1: I haven't been playing SH for long 2: I play SN2 on steam The graphics on SN2 are very nice, but the interconnected economic modelling is mindblowingly awesome (think - shortage in system; say 200 basic food; you are then in competition with NPC merchant ships who will also be trying to fulfill the shortage. Whoever drops off the last bit of cargo required gets the rep boost (you, or not you ) and the monetary reward. Likewise, smuggling drugs to a planet repeatedly causes productivity to go down, with knock on effects for the factions fleet strength. I find SN2 great for feeling like everything has a consequence. SH, on the other hand, I would say is a completely different game, with the focus more on the insane amount of possible worlds to visit and trade/fight/explore along the way. It's certainly a cool game and I would say worth £2 even if you have SN2. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
