I already had KOF 97 and Blazing Star. Now I bought KOF 98, Metal Slug (1, 2 and 3) and Samurai Shodown II. I strongly recommend you do the same if you own a controller (specially an iCade). These DotEmu's ports are way better than playing on an emulator.

 

What's the best KOF?

I love '97, but since '98 brings everybody back (so many kick ass characters!) and it's so well balaced it's my favorite of the whole serie. It' unbelievable how SNK went from this masterpiece to that disaster called KOF '99...

'98 It brings the best of the classic KOF and I like the classic style way more than the recent ones like '2012.

 

If I already have Metal Slug X, do I need 2? Are the actually the same game?

Just bought MS3 ugh..those controls. I guess it's just not for me.

 

The KoF series isn't anything like, say, FIFA. All games play different even though shared characters may have the same or similar move lists.

Just keep in mind that 97 and 98 are 1:1 ports instead of made from scratch like KoF-i 2012 (and SFIV Volt and SFxT Mobile), so the controls kinda suck. Also, no online.

 

Not really, unless you're really into the series or want to give your iCade a workout. KOF-i 2012 was designed for the touch screen, and it really plays well. There's a ton of single player challenges/trials. . . The older arcade ports are good too, especially for a dollar. But they don't have the content of the newer game.

 

I never bought 2 and only bought X. In a previous sale another forum goer had mentioned to get X and not 2.
