Hey guys and gals! Democracy vs Freedom is an online tank arena game where all players take part in one huge collective battle. The game is our commentary on the global political situation where many governments (no particular one in mind ) use their people to fight for their cause in the name of various ideologies but in the end these values don't really matter. That's why we confront two similar ideologies (Democracy and Freedom ) and let player choose one. As for the gameplay, players can vote for one move at a time and each turn the most popular order will get executed. By making good, beneficial decisions for the team, players collect experience, which boosts their military rank. Players with higher military ranks have more voting power, so they can outvote lower ones. It's pretty much a big experiment and we have no idea where this will take us but we're very excited to find out . We think it doesn't really fit into any existing well-known genre and that's why we've created one - MOVA which stands for Multiplayer Online Vote Arena. We're on the final stretch of the development and planning to release it on Android and iOS in the first half of May. What do you guys think ? *Edit: Democracy vs Freedom is now live on Google Play Store! Go check it out -> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rejectedgames.democracyvsfreedom
Thanks, we're very curious if it's going to work out. It will be interesting to watch people trying to cooperate...or maybe they will not want to . In theory it should end up looking decent, you know - statistically most people would want to achieve something, score points, etc. Anyway, this is how gameplay view going to look like (more or less, it's still a WIP very much and a test level on top of that):
Yes, kind of, except in our game players vote in 5s turns and each player has its own "voting power" - which is essentially his military rank/level - players on level 12 add 12 votes to the order count each time they vote. It's just like in the army - general's word is more important than private's . We've created a Slide DB page for the game if someone is interested. A few clicks wouldn't hurt .
It's time to bring up some gameplay details! In Democracy vs Freedom, players will battle on 6 different (for now ) arenas created on grid 14x10 units. Each unit can be occupied by tank and/or one specific block. For now, we're using 4 types of blocks, each with different influence on the gameplay: - Brick - tanks can't drive through them, but they can be destroyed with normal cannon or rocket Additionally rockets can destroy two bricks in a row or one brick and a tank - Grass - tanks can drive and shoot through them You can also hide in the grass, opponent will not see you unless you're shooting. - Stone - it can't be destroyed and tanks can't drive through them - Water - tanks can shoot through them but can't drive across them Later on, I will upload some screens from other maps.
So will there be different voting arenas with a max number of people? And also what constitutes a "good" move?
No, we tried to keep everything simple - from art to gameplay. In the menu (besides checking the profile, stats, etc.) there will be one choice - you either play in the Democracy camp or the Freedom camp and that's all. There will be only one active arena at the moment and all players will be put on that arena (right now, we don't have any "player limit" at all). After each round, server will change the arena. That's a good question. Again, for simplicity and for keeping it relatively fast-paced, we chose to promote mainly offensive actions. Players get points for destroying opponent's tank: - using normal cannon - 100 exp - using normal cannon when opponent is hiding in the grass - 200 exp - using rocket - 150 exp - using rocket when opponent is hiding in the grass - 250 exp - using rocket through a brick - 250 exp - using rocket through a brick when opponent is hiding in the grass - 350 exp You only get these points if you contributed to these actions. Additionaly you gain 10 points by destroying a brick (because, why not ) and you "get back" your voting points when you vote (for instance, player on level 12 will get 12 points for each vote), just for the sake of voting and being an active player. We're planning to add some power ups to the game (to spice up the gameplay) in some future updates, but that's just plans for now.
As promised, I'd like to share with you some screens from different maps. I'll appreciate any thoughts/comments. We've added an info/chat bar to the game. All messages will animate from right to left like on the tv news .
Hi guys! I've got some news for you. We finally set a release date for Democracy vs Freedom. It's going to be on May 19. It would be for Android first and then iOS later on (in few days, of course if Apple won't think otherwise ) We've decided to move the date a little bit just to make sure that everything's working exactly the way it should be. Apart from that, I want you to take a first peek at our Main Menu view.
This is a pretty cool idea! Although I will say, with the two sides names democracy vs freedom, I think it would be hilarious if the democracy tank preformed the action most voted on, while the freedom side disregarded all votes and just did whatever the hell it wanted (using an AI), haha!
We actually considered it (having democracy vs anarchy or something like that), but it would be harder for the "anarchy" team to score points and gain experience. We're thinking about making special events (like an "Anarchy Saturday" ), when rules will change for the day and appropriate info would be shown to the players in the main menu. What do you think ?
