Very interesting and thanks for posting. What immediately comes to mind is search rankings in the app store. Using admob as a proxy is very clever, but the ads are forced onto users. In the app store, the users search for keywords to find the apps. But once they see the app come up in search results, then all these things in the article come into play. I think a combination of embedding strong keywords in the title as well as testing the icon and titles using admob could prove useful.
