Hello! I'm new to this forum, so probably have a bit of a stupid question. I was looking through my old Gameboy/PS1 games, and come across all the games I used to really, really love when I was a child. Stuff like Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening, Wario Land 4, Spyro Year of the Dragon etc. etc. Most of the stuff I've been buying off the App Store has been mostly 'puzzle'/'lo fi' (for what of better words) kind of games. Can anyone point me into games that I might enjoy, that are perhaps similar to the games (or types of games) I've listed above? Many thanks
My suggestions: Minimae • Classic RPG Crusade of Destiny • 3D RPG Zenonia 1&2 • RPG Frogatto • 8Bit Platformer Rolando 1&2 • Puzzle-Platformer Start with these and you're off to a good start If these aren't up your alley, tell me and I'll revamp my list!
if you were a fan of Mario try Gravity Runner, thats quite retro-nostalgic with a slightly different spin on gameplay.
no, gravity runner is nothing like mario. soosiz is pretty neat though, and is my fave platformer on the appstore
Based on other user comments, I'm updating my list: Minimae Classic RPG Crusade of Destiny 3D RPG Zenonia 1&2 RPG Frogatto 8Bit Platformer Rolando 1&2 Puzzle-Platformer Bounce On 1&2 Platformer Soozis Platformer Babylonian Twins Puzzle Platformer Giana Sisters Platformer (literally a Mario clone from the 80's) Toy Bot Set Puzzle Platformer Gomi It's Katamari in 2D! Adventures of Archibald Puzzle Adventure Glyder 1&2 (2 is better) Flying Adventure Sim Hook Champ Swinging Platformer Super QuickHook Swinging Platformer Chop Chop Ninja Action Platformer Plunderland Pirate Plundering Adventure Grokion Action Platformer (think Super Metroid) CHAOS RINGS Epic Turn-Based RPG Adventure (my fave iPod game ever) -Gravity Runner is a great game, but it's not like Mario. It's a high-score running game with a twist on gravity. -Across age is a good RPG, but in honesty Zenonia is just plain BETTER.
Zenonia is ok but Inotia 2 is far better and if your adding normal rpgs to dont forget crimson gem saga
All the console quality games on the iPhone that I could think of, vaguely organized by chronology. It's mostly ports, but that's the way it is when you can't charge more than $5 or $10 for a game. BTW I only included games that I've played myself, have heard universal praise of, or have actually been released on a console. Akalabeth (Ultima 0) - Early 80's PC RPG Rogue Touch - Best available Rogue port Sword of Fargoal - Another Roguelike remake from the early days of the PC Nicky Boom 1&2 - Oldschool PC Platformer Mega Man 2 - Official port of the NES game Final Fantasy 1&2 - Ports of the PSP versions The Quest - Faux early 90's PC RPG. Absolutely huge, has ~8 expansions and more to come Doom Classic, Wolfenstein - ... Sonic the Hedgehog 1&2 - Port of the Genesis classic. Beware the crappy emulator used on these Genesis games tho Streets of Rage - Port of the Genesis classic Shining Force - Port of the Genesis classic Golden Axe - Port of the Genesis classic Ecco the Dolphin - Port of the Genesis classic Underworlds - Good Diablo clone. Only has 2 Acts but is well worth it Battle for Wesnoth - Massive RTS game. Literally ~100 hours long Phoenix Wright - Epic anime lawyer visual novel. Trust me on this one, it's one of the best games on this list DDR S - Dance Dance Revolution! Super Monkey Ball 1&2 - Both are valid entries in the series compared to the originals Maple Story - Single player offline version of the MMO, near perfect port of the PC version Rolando 1&2 - Puzzley platformer game, emphasis in platforming Toki Tori, Ice Age - Another puzzley platformer game, but with the emphasis on puzzles instead Bounce On 1&2 - The best original iPhone platformer game available geoDefense - Tower Defense game. Not really console style, but it's so good it doesn't matter Chaos Rings - Full scale Square Enix RPG Song Summoner - Another big Square Enix RPG. Includes the previously unreleased sequel as well Street Fighter 4 - Great port from what I've heard Crimson Gem Saga - A recent Atlus PSP RPG
- Frogatto - Soosiz - Rolando - Rasta Monkey - Hook Champ - Super Quickhook If you're looking for great games non-RPG or adventure wise, here are some other great ones. - Monster Dash - Solipskier - The Hero - Monorace - Zombie Escape EDIT: Post 300! Awesome!
sorry I'm going to disagree- it seems you straight picked on my post for some reason considering many of these games aren't alike in any true sense. In my opinion having played gravity runner I'd say it was similar to Mario- especially in terms of the particular importance of timing your jumps, and the background +sounds made retro purposely to nostalgically remind you of mario. Yes its not much like Mario with its very key dynamic of altering gravity, but its similar imo.
