For the last two years, I've organized the New Year's App Blowout (http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=2973 and http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=37823), and both years we had a great sale! We've generated a lot of interest and gotten the word out about a lot of indie iOS games and apps.

I'm looking for more developers that are interested in participating in the sale. I've got more information on this page, and information on how to join:

    http://www.newyearappblowout.com/about.html

So please take a look at the contact page and email me if you're interested! We've decided to put our two games on sale for free as incentive to get more participants!

    Thanks,
    Andy

The Blowout is the original iOS indie sale. All these advent calendars and freebie sites are mere imitators! :D

For any devs who might be hesitant I'll just say that I've participated in this since the begining and the results have always been great. This sale always gets good press and has earned a mention on Touch Arcade's front page 2 years running.

    sounds like salesmenship

Maybe you should list the games you have helped. Your offer sounds like your a salesmen rather than trying to help someone.

    Hi maxxx,

Our previous sales have been preserved for posterity's sake:
    http://newyearappblowout.com/2009.shtml
    and
    http://newyearappblowout.com/2010.shtml

Frank's apps are Pinch 'n Pop and Pollywog. This year he's generously offered them for free. Also, I'd like to personally thank him for the site design!

There are still a few more spots available. Are there any particular genres that people would like to see better represented in the sale?

It's just a bunch of indie devs voluntarily putting apps on sale. Individually a lot of us would be ignored but together we stand a chance of getting some press. Andy's our gracious coordinator - he's not trying to sell you anything.

P.S. I think the 2010 link is incomplete - there were a ton more apps IIRC!

I'm game for it, would be happy to price-drop the following from £1.19/$1.99 to £0.59/$0.99 for a period:

    The Glowing Void
    Future Racer
    The Mirror Maze
Woolly The Jumper; A Sheep On The Edge

    Cheers,

I'll be the first to admit that I don't understand the Farmville [Free] phenomenon at all. I've tried several times to get in to the game, and while I've been sucked in to other freemium social time sinks, Farmville just doesn't do it for me. However, this doesn't seem to stop nearly everyone I know on Facebook from constantly offering lost cows, free corn, and all kinds of other junk I can't even begin to understand why I'd want. If you do want those things, and own an iPad, you need to check out the latest Farmville update ASAP.

Is this being advertised at all? I'm participating, but I'm a little worried since I haven't seen anything anywhere about the sale. I understand you don't want to do it too early, but you also can't count on coverage, because you've had it in the past.

The AppStore is a much more competitive place this year and with the big boys doing massive holiday sales, see EA, I'm a little worried this will get lost in the shuffle.

The sale has now completely filled up. Sorry if I couldn't get back to everyone who requested to be in the sale.

The press release went out this morning, and I'll be emailing my individual contacts shortly. I've found that most iOS news sources work on a pretty short timeline. They prefer to post about news as they hear it... not hear about a sale and have to sit on it for a while before posting about it. And if a site is only going to post once about a sale, it's best for it to happen when the sale is going on.

Thanks again for everyone who participated, and sorry to those who didn't make it in time!

If you'd like to pass along the word, either simply share the sale's URL:
    http://newyearappblowout.com/

    Or share the press release:

Super stoked to be participating an putting our new game Ramps on sale!

I'm also super stoked that I found Crayon Ball! And for FREE! Super fun.. I love the Van Gogh theme.

My wife is going to have to drag me out of the house by my ears for new years tomorrow night as I'm going to be playing all these games. :D
