Coin and Cutlass is a tale of swashbuckling pirates and clean cut privateers! You, as the captain, will command a crew of sailors and manage a fleet of ships. You will take missions to trade goods between ports, capture (or kill) enemies and their ships, upgrade your ships and crew members, and most importantly increase your notoriety on the high seas! Are you a king's most trusted privateer, or are you a dirty pirate?

    Core Gameplay

The core gameplay mechanic of Coin and Cutlass revolves around travelling between ports and trading goods. Buy low and sell high, Captain! At these ports you will also be able to access Shipyards to manage your fleet and upgrade your ship, Taverns to hire and manage your crew, Markets to buy and sell goods, and Contract Stalls to pick up missions.

    Travelling, Encounters and Naval Combat

Be wary while you’re travelling between ports. You might encounter such things like coral reef potentially damaging your ship and losing goods, travelling merchant ships, or even pirates trying to steal your haul. Never fear, you have choices Captain! You can pay bribes to avoid battle, or you can let your cannons go! Will you use the small Cutter ship to try and avoid battles or will you use a massive warship such as the Galleon to own the deadly waters? Do you sink ships and move on, or do you try and climb aboard for deck battles and try and capture their cargo? It's your choice!

    Deck Battles

Once you board an enemy ship, you enter into turn based RPG style battle. With three different character classes and unique upgrade trees, you can strategize and plan your approach of attack. Death is permanent: if you lose a crew member, you will have to hire a new character and put him into battle to get him up to the level of his predecessor. Will you choose to go with a brute to land large damage, or will you be more strategic and use the light characters to block and choose your attacks more carefully?

    Ships

There are a total of five different types of ship you can purchase (or capture) and upgrade. Each ship has different attributes for different purposes. The Cutter is fast and can avoid battle but does not have a lot of firepower or cargo capacity. The Galleon is a huge warship with tonnes of firepower and cargo capacity but is quite slow. If you want to fortify the hull to take more damage, or add more cannons on deck, you can visit a shipyard and perform upgrades to your ships. Managing a fleet and choosing the best ship for the mission is the way to go, Captain!

    Crew

Head to a tavern to manage your crew manifest, hire new sailors, or upgrade your existing crew members. Two systems are in play in regards to the characters appearance. Genetics provides items such as peg legs, hook hands, or scars, and the costume system allows you to choose hats! Aye, hats, Captain.

    Pirate or Privateer

Every mission you complete will help score points as either a pirate or a privateer. When you take a mission to deliver goods, will you defy your orders and keep them for yourself, or will you complete the delivery earning the gold and experience like a good lad? Be mindful that some missions will only be available to either faction; you wouldn't expect the King to trust a dirty pirate with a delivery of gold, would you? Which type of Captain will you be?

    Anchors Away

Set sail and begin your quest to become the most notorious Captain across the land. Treasure and glory await the brave who are up to the tall task ahead. Your crew needs a Captain who will lead them through perilous adventures in which they seek their fortunes! Lead them to power and glory while growing your reputation - fearsome pirate king or devoted privateer, your name will be known across the land and seas in Coin and Cutlass!

Cool! Looks good. Is it inspired by Oregon Trail?

Ooh, this one looks cool! Quite a step up from Random Heroes!

So, your main aim is to create your own pirate ship and crew, travelling from A to B trading and fighting other ships? Awesome concept, I likey!

What will this game cost initially, and will it be cross-platform? (iOS can play with Android etc...)

Are you guys working on a gameplay trailer for the future months and weeks?

Edit: I love the art style for this game, sort of looks like its inspired by Zelda in the first screenshot in my opinion!

We've heard that the travelling between ports is similiar to Oregon Trail, but I've never actually played it!

That is pretty much the goal of the game! We haven't landed on a solid price but we are expecting somewhere around a premium price point so that we can balance the game to not require In-App Purchases.

We will be working on a trailer in the near future yes! :)

    Thank you very much! :D

We want to share the final inked concept of the fishing town's port in the game! There are 5 ports planned for the game which all have different demands and the ability to supply trade goods.
