Paper Monsters is a very hearty 2.5d sidescrolling platformer with all kinds of goodies, worlds and weapons.
A lot has changed since this original post months ago. Also, a lot of the suggestions from the first few pages
have been added.. (Gotta love the gamers here)
Please feel free to post any thought input! :)

Looks great, I think it should have faster movement, because it just looked slooow. But, it looks pretty good. I don't know how it's like LittleBigPlanet though.

Certainly not the exact same by any means.... Which is a good thing.
There would be too much flak if it was just like it. Although some folks (understandably) might get emotional just over mentioning LBP lol

Just an inspiration in that LBP is probably the most recognizable game when people think of 2.5d.

Only similar in that its a sidescroller.

Thanks for checking out the VIdeo though.

I just hope people will think it is fun when or if they play it

Yeah. Early enough there is plenty things to write before the polishing starts.
Notice the HUD isn't even in that particular video clip.

As far as speed and movement I prefer to let beta testers help with those types of decisions. With a solid foundation down, things like that can be tweaked anytime.

Just added new video to show daylight and a watery sunny level.

Should have some footage of the flying stuff up in a week or so.

Thanks again for checking it out.

So when you say Paper Mario inspired you just mean the paper theme? Not the RPG elements?

    Correct.
Gameplay is more adventure with some physics based puzzle elements!

    thanks!

I would absolutely LOVE to play this as I have platinumed LBP and still play to this day. Please add me to your list of beta testers as I'm an extremely good bug/glitch finder.

    -Thanks.

I came on this page, saw a pic, was very disappointed. But then clicked the video and wow, it looks pretty freakin' good. I love the way the background moves and everything.

My only issues with it so far is that the main character is a little bland... Maybe that's because of the paper look, but hopefully there's a way to spruce up the character a bit. It also does seem to be quite slow-paced, as an other user already stated.

Looks like a good core game so far. Looking forward to more screens and the eventual release!

That's good to hear. I better get some better screen shots lol

The way the backgrounds move is due to the fact that the game is actually a full 3d game. It just sticks to the sidescroller tradition. LBP being the most well known game in this sort 2d 3d genre.

As far as the little guy, he will get spruces up.
One thing that is not shown in the video is the way he turns now and looks like a piece of paper spinning 180ยบ

Once the game is done then adding the little details will happen towards the end.

Been really focused on the paper plane flying mechanics right now.
I think that will be a really fun addition. It is also in full on 3d and shown from a rear perspective. ALong the lines of starfox... Again only for comparison though.

I think this game looks pretty damn adorable! :)
Really glad it's running smooth on 1st gen devices as I'm still there. I'll be sure to keep my eye on this one.

Yeah, we'll do everything we can to get it to run on 1st gen.
millions of people put a couple hundred bucks into those first gen devices.

Thats why I still test on them.

The only downfall i can see happening is not being able to make universal app.

Including all the iphone4 and ipad stuff in there could bog things down,

A lot of people don't realize that iPad graphics can be scaled and run ok on a 3gs sometimes ......but to really optimize you HAVE have a second set of EVERY graphic. This in a large game makes the download HUGE. Now with iphone4 sharing a download with 1st gen, it is a real headache targeting 1st gen and having it still look good on iphon4. AT least ipad can be separate.

My guess (and only a guess) is that this is why some games like angry birds still have not introduced hi res. It would kill the 1st gen or more than double the download size.

    Yeah lol
    Good to hear!

I was hoping that might clear up any concerns that its not just a bad LBP knockoff for the iphone. (by that i mean running around pushing stuff)

The original plan was to get it out by Halloween but i don't know at this point.
There is A LOT of work to be done still. It will be out this year though.
