    Hello all!

There are loads of space and war shmups for the iphone but which are really good? Got Platypus, Rrootage and Space Ninja but none of those really hits the mark and Space Ninja is probably not even to be considered a shmup as you just avoid stuff.

I tried Dragon Force demo and it took me a while to realize its got some cool elements. Don't like the controls though.

Sentry Alpha reminds me of Raptor. Its also a very good pick-up and play game. So my vote goes for that.

I think I remember Raptor. It was a nice game back then. Sentry Alpha remembers more that Xeious arcade game or something...

to be honest, all the shoot'emups are less than ideal due to controls. I think it will take an iphone-specific shoot'em'up to come along.

A shoot'emup version of Space Ninja, for example.

Most complete: Sky Thunder, after the update playable and with cool graphics and sound. Just a bit short. But still the best.

Space Deadbeef has to come a a full game!!!

Thanks för your input, seems like it stands between Sentry and Sky Thunder and of the 2 only Sky Thunder have both touch and tiltcontrols. Tried the Dragon Force demo and truly enjoyed it.
No mention of Radio Flare, is it that bad?

My Fave shmups (and this is my favorite genre):

2079 - underrated and excel controls for a geo wars type game. very smooth controls with tilt aptly moving your ship and a 360 degree shooting circle for firing.

Zone Warrior - decent dogfighting while shooting asteroids while saving the space station.

Centipede is flat out awesome. I got 450,000 on Ultra (best way to play)

Rebel Onslaught - recent purchase. seems worthy. The dev is working on updates to make it even better.

Solar Blaster - challenging version of the classic atari game Star Raiders. worth a try.

Radio Flare - another recent purchase that shows promise but needs improvements like changing backgrounds and more songs. Rez lovers must get it and u must play with hphones!

Slingshot - tho maybe not a typical shmup, i love this take on the cannon game with gravity in space as opposed to wind in canyons. I currently have 10% of the top 100 scores worldwide with 5 in the top 50 and #5 overall.

So far, Sentry Alpha (paid), and both free rRootage and Space Dead Beef are the best so far. I haven't tried Dragon Force yet. Radio Flare is kind of borderline case.

Still waiting for the rRootage developer to port more shooters over.

I'd love to get a good quality shmup on my iPhone, I'm a big fan of these types of games too. But, I'm not sure we're really there yet, the controls are a big issue that hasn't been solved yet. Space Ninja makes me optimistic though.

How come nobody mentioned Blue Skies? I think the controls worked out pretty well for it.

Platypus is simple, but I love it. I really love the animations. :)

If you want a fun shoot 'em up and you're not a serious gamer, this one is a good choice.

Try UFOs at http://ufosiphone.wordpress.com/ where the control issues you describe have been fixed.
I tried Space Deadbeef but I can't control the main spaceship well.

I've played a few, but I think nothing comes close to Space Deadbeef. They should release a full version soon.

And what about Internal Force? I remember seeing a feature here on TA. I don't think it's been released already.
