Uniwar is a great turn based strategy game with online multiplayer. Pretty big community-I would say at least 1000 active players still.
I've considered Uniwar before. The online multiplayer looks compelling. No iPad version? No thanks. Don't know if other gamers do this, but I'm starting to avoid devs/publishers that don't update often. Uniwar, for instance. Let's say I brushed aside my HD bias and get the game knowing full well it would look ok pixel doubled. The game hasn't been updated since May 20. I'm already experiencing issues with iOS games not having audio. Not knocking the game or your recommendation, I'm just getting a lot pickier before dropping money on games.
Hmm, that's true. However, the devs said on uniwar.com that they'll be releasing an HD version soon, with new features and it'll also be universal. Maybe you can consider the app then
The HD screens look good! Ranked ladder play, user-generated maps... dang, looks like I'll be dropping another $5 when this comes out. On their forum a mod said end of October for the newest update, but I'm not sure if that update includes the HD version or not.
strategy on ipad? i got u covered. lots of games are great, but dont have ipad exclusive or universal versions. rts Lost Empires Warfare Inc Starfront Collision turnbased Highborn hd Neo nectaris (iphone version, based on awesome tg-16 game) Mecho wars- (hd version on the way, but plays good in 2x) Tactical warrior Fatal league Companions Pantheon cycle: Shrouded aspect Knighturn and its prequel sw&ear Theseus HD and to whomever was saying x-com on ipad. it already exists, plays great on IDOS along with its sequel terror from the deep. that is if you were lucky enough to get it before it was pulled..
Great suggestions so far. However, I would add Everlands HD, Conquist 2 (for Risk-like), Tactical Soldier, and Greed Corporation.
I'm surprised nobody talked about "Z - The Game" (Universal). Great game from 1996 ported to iOS. The difficulty is quite high though. See http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/z-the-game/id418354265?mt=8
Aquaria! I have to really strategize and plan my schedule ahead to make time to play this epic game! >.> My favourite strategy game on the ipad would be The War of Eustrath[Turn based]! Companions[Real Time] is rather good too, but the controls can make things a little frustrating. I have tried Civilization Revolution... but it just isn't fun playing with mentally challenged AIs.
Personally I have these games that I return to: - Neuroshima Hex - Carcassonne - New World Colony - Strategery (although its too easy to win even on hardest setting) Honorary mentions go to - GLWG - Rimelands - Weird Worlds - Galcon Enjoyed those, but dont really play them anymore New entries that I've not yet decided totally if they are keepers or not - Elder Sign (too random for me - but fantastic theme wise) - SpaceChem - Ghost Stories Also tried some of the more "grand strategy" games like European War 2, but they dont connect with me after a while playing. /Thomas
Most of the games I would recomend have already been mentioned e.g Highborn HD, GLWG etc. I would also recomend Zombie Rescue...Grafically it might not appeal to some, but the game play is pretty cool! For me, it's a hidden gem!
Another vote for GLWG and also the Mongobile games Knighturn & Swords and Earings. A 5 star iTunes review of Knighturn describes the graphics as being like a low budget horror movie but its a really good TBS,
well i had most of the games mentioned, thanks guys, really hope ff tactics gets released on ipad soon
You guys pretty much mentioned all the ones I like, so... I had the pleasure of beta testing for Ravenmark (should be coming out this week) and it's probably one of the best TBSs I've played on iOS. It's not an easy game by any means. It uses a very intuitive system and you will get flanked hardcore by the AI; the archers are, also, no joke! The game required me to create formations and then disband them quite a bit to deal with the flanking. They definitely made a great TBS. However, the game will surely frustrate you if your'e new to the TBS genre, but it is super fun nonetheless. Also, it has an awesome story! That's about as much as I can tell you! http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=108678&highlight=ravenmark Also check out Patchwork Battles; it's a TBS/RPG/Crafting Sim. It looks pretty dang awesome! It, also, uses a reactionary battle system! http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=112647&highlight=patchwork
Well, this was the only thread I saw for best strategy games, so I kinda hijacked it. The devs said that there will be an iPad version coming!
Anyone played the iPad version of C&C Red Alert? It's getting some not so good reviews, but I think for nostalgic reasons I'm still going to have to download it
