I am relatively new to the iPhone scene and have only one app right now. I was wondering if any of you can help me market it properly. It seems like people like it a lot, it just that a whole bunch of them don't know about it yet.
Please send PM if you can help.

    Hey Syed,

    This one's a freebie:

    1. Always mention your app by name when you're talking about it.

    2. Always include the name and link to your app in your signature for all related forums you participate in.

    Good luck!

    Natalia

    :)

    k. ill post some stuff here

the whole point of marketing is to well, market
number one key rule is before you do something, think through everything

    ok here are some ways.
    what NOT to do:
start a contest that only lasts an hour and you give away all your codes
    post codes in thread
pay no attention to support (i.e., the icopter classic guys make updates and ask for feeback but dont respond to feedback)
take critism as a personal attack (like the mobile amuesments guy)

    what TO do:
make a contest that spans over a long time therefore keeping the thread at the top of TA and giving it more views and possibly more buys
always add links in your signature
    make preview threads
give codes out via PMs to indivuals not just post in thread (for instance, i ran a survey via PM for 5 people, all 5 responded, if i didnt hand pick them and just chose randomly, im sure almost no one would respond)
respond to feedback and make it seem like your invovled
    have fun!
come up with good names not generic ones
have something so that TA feels invovled (i.e. little red sled, "create your own level contest")
make sure to create a blog or website to keep everyone informed
thats all i got for now
if anyone wants anything more PM me...

I try to do as much of that as I can, but TA interest in iScreamer! Is low, so of I can't do a big contest. Thanks for taking the time to post that! We will do out best!!

    yeah, this is smart.
I guess in the future some people will pay forums active users in order to sponsor them.

"Hey, for 40$ per week could you add the name of our company in your signature? You'll have to post, at least, 150 messages per week."

    Its not just about marketing.

Make a better app (polish and presentation is so important) and it will market itself.

If your app is a gimmick app (iFart, iBeer, iCopyCatSillyDumbAction, etc..) I'd suggest creating something with more substance, as you're competing in a sea of apps that will likely not be approve in the future on the app store.

That already happens... a lot. There are sites where people get together just to hire each other to do forum and blog posts about products, apps, etc. One site I know of in particular, people sell links in their signature.

    Hi,

Thanks for sharing this post! I feel Marketing is far more than tactics. Marketing is analysis, and a sound marketing strategy is based on this analysis.

I think this over-simplifies things a tad. While I agree that "making a better app" should be rule number one, there is a good chance your app would disappear into oblivion as there are simply too many high-profile apps coming out every week. Without some sort of additional advertising you are unlikely to succeed...
