So Im currently working on an iPhone game that Im hoping to release this summer. Its mainly a platform game, serving as a tribute to earlier hardcore platform games like Mega Man or the first Metal Gear game but also other genres with classics like the R-Type games. I also have influences from newer games like Braid and Limbo but first and foremost maybe Super Meat Boy is the biggest one. And of course, with its own unique artsy look. I will try to make it accessable for most people, so not just a super hardcore game. Im going to upload a pic here now. Will post updates along the way. This game is basically (which it probably is for most indie devs) a side project next to my regular job and pretty much everything else that has to be done in life. So when ever I have a some time over, I work on this game. Again, hopefully it is released on AppStore this summer! /Seb
Welcome to Toucharcade! I love the art style So from the sound of your inspirations (Braid, Limbo), it seems like this will have some puzzle aspects, rather than being a simple precision platformer. Edit: when I saw the game before, I thought the name was Venerable Rain. Which sounds great too btw
Thanks! Yeah, you're right, it has some puzzle aspects. The idea is that each episode of the game has a different genre touch within the main platform genre. If that makes any sense. So when mentioning Metal Gear, I will have a stealh based episode with five levels. And one episode is kind of a dungeon crawler with a little puzzle aspect to it. And so on!
Screens from the menu Here are some pics from the menu. The first two shows the two difficulties. The last one is the "Choose Episode" screen. 10 theme based episodes with 5-10 lvls each. More pics coming! Also, be sure to check out my Facebook page for more info: https://www.facebook.com/VenerableRain?ref=hl And my Instagram account for more frequent updates: http://instagram.com/sebmat86 Here´s a short clip of the menu in action: http://instagram.com/p/kz4IIVOTcT/ /Seb
More Pics From Episode 2 - "Escort Missions" Thanks! Here are some more pics from the game! More precisely, from the second episode of the game. It´s´a forrest themed episode, with five levels. It´s a tribute to all the classic games with escort missions, that all us gamers have a hate-love relation to! Like Ico, MGS 2, MGS3, GoldenEye (N64), Perfect Dark (N64), RE4 and so on and so on! Loved them but also, really hated them! /Seb
Three new pics and any one up for testing the game? So Testflight, obviously. And ONLY (for now) the five first that private message me. I´ll inform when the limit is reached. Edit: This is only an iPhone game, at least for starters! I kind of wrote this earlier, but any way, keep in mind that this is a hardcore platformer with influences from Mega Man, Metroid, Super Meat Boy, Rick Dangerous, MicroMan and many other great platform games. But also every episode will be themed with a slightly different genre touch to its otherwise platform direction. One episod is a tribute to the escort missions we all hate but love, oh so much! So, consider this to be a tribute to those ol´classic hardcore games! /Seb
Thanks to Sebmat we got the chance to test the game, and we really love it. It is going to be awesome and we definitely will be buying it when it comes out. Also loving the animations and music ! Keep us updated!
Great! Then you should get my whole game concept rather well. ------------------------------- UPDATE: The limit of 5 invites is now reached. But in a couple of weeks I will be looking for more testers. So if anyone is up for it just PM me and I´ll save your email adress and will send an invite eventually. In the meantime, I´ll upload yet another pic for you guys. Cheers, /Seb
Major Setback... ...yeah. So apart from life in general, I´ve run into a major setback with the development of the game. Essentially this means that I need to remake the game from start. Obviously, this more than sucks! But I won´t give up, no I will focus on making more levels and the overall graphics for the game. Oh, and making more music! When all that is done, I will take the chance to make adjustments to the game mechanics and some slight improvements to them. And try to optimise the game where i see fit! But stay tuned and hopefully I will come back with news in a few weeks! /Seb @ Venerable Rain
Oh, things like that sucks. I was having fun until I reached a point where I couldn't continue but it has some serious potential. Keep the good work
