This preview version has all the AE content, you could see the toggle for AE content when he started the run. And he was able to buy Mind Control, Charge Laser and he encountered a hacking drone. This is likely the final beta or the review copy.

Do things unlock over multiple play-throughs? Like new ship hulls or something? Or is it a complete start from scratch everytime you die?

You unlock new ships by either finishing unique quests or by beating the game with a currently owned ship. For acquiring new ships by beating the game you will follow a strict flow chart, so one ship can only unlock the next ship in the queue. You can also unlock new layouts for owned ships by completing two out of three unique achievements for each ship.

I see. Thanks for that! Is there anything else that unlocks like that for future play throughs? Either crew or weapons etc? Or just new hulls?

No, however the ships and layouts you unlock come with unique weapon and crew loadouts.

Working my way through a pre-release copy to review for another site. I can't say much right now but I CAN tell you it's a beeeautiful port with a touch interface so slick, it doesn't feel like a port.

Yeah, I noticed that after seeing the video. I've played the PC version and I've noticed that the interface has translated fantastically to touch controls, the iPad and the lack of keyboard. Nice to have a first-person confirmation of this. I think I'll be having a lot of fun with this one :)
