Anodia currently sits besides the rest of my favorites games. As I said before, it's all about the gravity field and the creative layouts. Some chillout, ambient or electro music would go well with it. I rarely play it because there's no music, unlike Block Breaker Deluxe 2 that I played a lot, partly because of some of the nifty tunes it has. Ghouls'R'us Well-Known Member Jun 9, 2011 555 0 16 #15 Ghouls'R'us, Aug 25, 2011 The game receives a considerable amount of criticism for this aspect, but from my personal point of view, it is better to play your own tunes than being stuck with a sub-par soundtrack, which happens more than I wish in other games. Going to the option screen to purposefully mute the soundtrack is already a negative action that has an impact on the overall product experience. Unfortunately, it is expected for a game to fill the aural background with something... anything. Anodia being the quality release that it is, I trust CLM to take the necessary steps if they ever choose to include some background tunes and not to rush it out simply to fill an automatic customer need. Osmos springs to mind immediately with honourable mentions for Spirit, The Glowing Void, Block Breaker 2, Call of Atlantis, Fishdom H2O, Plants Vs Zombies, Sentinel 3, Azkend, etc. The other thing I'd like to mention is that I have Anodia on my iPad 2 (which I use primarily for browsing and playing games) but barely have any music on it as I already have my iPhone 4 for that purpose due to its portability. IMHO it's better to have some decent in-game music than none at all and it's up to the developer to choose some good tunes while they're at it. Anodia is one of a handful of games I have that doesn't have any music and I find that disappointing given that there are other block breaking games out there that have some excellent tunes. If their developers could do it then I can't see any reason as to why CLM can't do the same for Anodia. Incorporating some good tunes into Anodia would take it to another level but not including any music is the same as saying "I couldnt be bothered." Ghouls'R'us Well-Known Member Jun 9, 2011 555 0 16 #17 Ghouls'R'us, Aug 25, 2011 I must say that I agree with the first part of your sentence. A developer can easily spend a few dollars for a few musical pieces, but actual relevant and sophisticated musical compositions that enhance the overall game experience is not an obvious effort. It requires in-house talent or external hiring of so, and material resources. I admit that now more than ever, developers are blessed with affordable options for competent audio productions, so such a thing is easily within reach. CLM Well-Known Member Patreon Gold Apr 10, 2011 135 0 16 http://clmgames.com/ #18 CLM, Aug 25, 2011 Oh, I forgot to mention that this Anodia Sale is to celebrate our new puzzle game Hexbee. You can read more about it in its own topic: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=105153 or just follow the iTunes link: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hexbee/id446822719?mt=8 . Oh, and Hexbee is free (no ads), so there's no reason not to try it. And as to discussion about music above. I agree with both of you in parts. The lack of music in Anodia was one of the hardest choices that we had to make. We too believe that music could enhance the experience with Anodia. But to really do that, it would have to follow the spirit of the game. In Anodia, every level is unique and custom made, and so would have to be music. But including a lot of background music would make the game much bigger (and I mean much, much bigger), so after many discussions we decided that we prefer to leave that space to the user (for his own music for example). So the lack of music isn't just random, it was a choice. A hard one, as I said before. Ghouls'R'us Well-Known Member Jun 9, 2011 555 0 16 #19 Ghouls'R'us, Aug 26, 2011 I too appreciate the individuality and resulting originality of each level, but they still are grouped according to different themes. You wouldn't need a unique composition for each and every level, simply one for each level theme. Have you considered procedurally generated computer music? Perhaps some unique instruments uniquely suited for each world, generated in real time by the program would fill nicely. It would display a strange alien vibe though. CLM Well-Known Member Patreon Gold Apr 10, 2011 135 0 16 http://clmgames.com/ #20 CLM, Aug 26, 2011 Attention! Anodia sale is coming to an end (it ended in NZ already) so if you plan on getting it you should hurry up And as to the discussion (we should really move it to the main Anodia topic, because its too interesting to be just buried up in here): Yes, levels are grouped according to themes, but even in the same theme they often differ greatly in terms of dynamics and the music would have to accommodate for that. So in my opinion one music for each level theme wouldn't be enough. As to procedurally generated music, we had that thought for a moment. But there are some problems here too. The most important is that we don't have much experience with it, so it would probably turn out crappy . The second problem is that we really wanted to make Anodia run smoothly on even the oldest devices (and it does, even on the 1st gen iPod touch) and generating the music would consume the precious CPU ticks . Maybe we'll revisit this idea if we'll find someone with experience on the field. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
