In the build-up to the release of our first game onto the App Store, I was wondering what you guys all thought made a good promotional video? A good video could attract thousands of hits and with a day's worth of footage being uploaded to youtube every minute, what are the features that a promotional video needs to entice you to buy / stand out from the crowd? Any responses are greatly appreciated
My connection speed is pretty crappy, so I get annoyed when a video begins with 30 seconds of company logos and slow intros. By all means include some, but we don't need them fading in slowly over 5 seconds. Get to the good stuff quickly and show enough gameplay for people to be able to tell what the game is about.
So basically have the corporate stuff but don't gloss over it, get onto what your actually buying? Yeah I can see the reason behind that
In the promotional videos what would you say grabs your attention? Music / gameplay or an exciting description?
Less obsequious answer - this! Really, we don't want to watch your logo fade in slowly and watch ten lines of text - go straight to the money shots and put the contact details at the end. Also, whatever speed your transitions go at now? Make em 10x faster.
I dont tend to use transitions.. feel it cheapens the whole thing a bit, like some 12 year old making it on movie maker. I have something in mind, its pretty different but I hope people like it
And timing is important too, you'd better limit the video timing within 2 minutes, because after 2 minutes, people begin to get distracted, and make sure your video has an intriguing outset, to attract people's attention closely at the very first second.
Make it as good as a movie trailer, something like a good game, cool graphics, and combined amazing soundtrack all fit the game well.
