    Hello fellow TA'ers!

Candywriter is thrilled to announce Dogs Playing Poker for iPhone and iPaw'd Touch! Yes, its both exactly what you think it is and exactly what it sounds like, a comic salute to blue collar America!

We've been working on Dogs Playing Poker for over a year now and are very close to release. Each day on this thread, I will post a new dog and describe a new feature from the game. For now, please sit back and enjoy our video trailer!

[IMG] Dog of the Day: Ximena (Chihuahua)

Don't be fooled by this hot-tempered Chicana firebrand. Contrary to first glance, no one pushes around little Ximena although many a stray mongrel have been sent packing for trying.

Feature of the Day: Unlocking Dogs

In Dogs Playing Poker, you begin by creating a dog with the breed of your choice. Each time you win a five-round tournament, you'll unlock a new dog breed that you can use for your own pooch.

[IMG] Dog of the Day: Duke (English Bulldog)

This old malcontent mug has ridden some rough waves. Duke is an ex-fighter and spends his time haggard from alcohol and debt, ambling the streets in lonesome stupors.

Feature of the Day: "Every Dog Has Its Day"

"Every Dog Has Its Day" profiles the highest earning pooch in the world on the game's splash screen as the day progresses. Each night at midnight, the tables are cleared and a new day begins.

[IMG] Dog of the Day: Dmitri (Siberian Husky)

On the outside, he's a stoic north shore oil imperial. On the inside and with his money at stake, Dmitri quickly turns on the grit, snarling and heaving at ease, yet rarely left out in the cold.

Feature of the Day: Petting the Dogs!

Should you feel so inclined, you can pet your dog by rubbing his/her belly during play! But be careful, your dog will be very jealous should you pet another!

    Australia, mate!
Dmitri looks like a lady killer.

[IMG] Dog of the Day: Klaus (German Shepherd)

Klaus recently escaped a respectful - and prolific - career as a drug dog at McCarran and stumbled into the night game on his way out of town. Although awake for days and cranky, Klaus is still a shark in this house.

Feature of the Day: Hand Strength Meter

Dogs Playing Poker displays a hand strength meter next to your cards whenever its your turn to move (see above next to the German Shepherd's 10-6 offsuit). This meter is designed to help you establish a quick visual approximation of your hand's strength. Advanced players can turn this feature off via the game's Settings.

I was fortunate enough to have played this game and it is very cool! Candywriter makes some very polished and fun games (Word Solitaire is one of my all time favs) and Dogs Playing Poker is no exception.

The cool thing is that it's not just cute and funny (which it is), it's also a great poker sim. I play poker daily on my iPhone so this fits right in for me.

Waiting to see the next dog here in this thread.

[IMG] Dog of the Day: Chester (Mastiff)

Ruling the roost, Chester is the grandfather of the scene, passive and pleasant, honest and honorable, careful and conservative. This 14-stoner is often dutied with delicately dispelling daunting dog fights.

    Feature of the Day: OpenFeint

Dogs Playing Poker is fully OpenFeint-enabled, allowing you to post scores on three leaderboards (Hands Won, Rounds Won, and Tournaments Won) as well as rack up achievements and earn OpenFeint points.

[IMG] Dog of the Day: Honey (Golden Retriever)

Honey is a cheerful lass with a penchant for theatre. Laid back, sober, and high on life, she'll play her cards right and sing with glee when lady luck prevails in the early hours.

Feature of the Day: Twitter Integration

Not only can you brag about your victories directly onto Twitter after winning a round or unlocking a new dog, but you can also tweet your defeats should you be in the mood for a spot of self-deprecation.

[IMG] Dog of the Day: Milo (Jack Russell Terrier)

Frightened by nobody, Milo is a professional lizard wrangler in the 305 and really knows how to hassle a table. The nut-dangler stowed his way into the US on a Polynesian steamer and breathes a newcomer's lust for cash.

Feature of the Day: Texas Hold 'em Tutorial

Dogs Playing Poker comes with a detailed tutorial to teach beginners how to play Texas Hold 'em poker, the world's favorite poker game. The tutorial walks you through a game and presents pointers on both the rules of play and how to use the interface.

[IMG] Dog of the Day: Butkus (Boston Terrier Mix)

Hailing from the smelly docks of Tacoma, this cantankerous poker bandit has made a swift but glorious pass through the rankings. He'll sit in a corner and strike suddenly, taking all of your cash in the process.

Feature of the Day: Dogs Playing Poker AI

We've been honing the artificial intelligence model used in Dogs Playing Poker since 2006 when we first developed Imagine Poker for the Mac. The AI that currently runs Imagine Poker 2 for the iPhone is widely accepted as one of the strongest (if not the strongest) No Limit Texas Hold 'em AI's on the App Store. We've been able to leverage our model to produce not just one, but a diverse range of successful poker playing styles, and Dogs Playing Poker continues this trend with 20 unique opponents.

From the moment the cards are dealt in your first game, the dogs you face will be analyzing your playing style and adapting accordingly. For example, if you try to scare someone out of a pot and get caught, each of the dogs at the table will update their impressions of you. This works the opposite way too; if your play becomes predictable, you'll end up having a harder time collecting the canines' cash. Don't be paranoid: the dogs also study each others' play and form their own opinions of every other dog in the game.

Don't be fooled by the cute graphics! These dogs, especially on the later rounds, will chew you up and spit you out.

Who's the smartest? Daisy the Poodle and Ulysses the Walrus.

[IMG] Dog of the Day: Sammy (Dalmatian)

Frustrated by the homogeny of his flaming cousins and propelled by a commitment to contrast, Sailor Sammy set sail as just a wee pup and has since been chasing the boat.

Feature of the Day: Your Performance Graded

After winning or losing a round, Dogs Playing Poker will evaluate your performance that round, assessing the starting difficulty of the table, your demonstrated trickery, and your luck during the sitting. Finally you'll be given a letter grade to sum up your performance!

[IMG] Dog of the Day: Toby (Maltese Yorkshire Terrier)

This preppy little Canadian is a fashion icon whose insatiable drive for danger can barely be derailed long enough for a full game of poker, not unlike his Commonwealthian double-o hero.

    Feature of the Day: Tells

Each dog has numerous "tells", or noticeable reactions that give you clues as to the hands they hold. Learn them all! If they become a distraction, turn them off via the game's Settings.
