EDIT: The update is out, downloads ahoy! Arrrrrrrr!!!!!

tl;dr version: New maps! New leaderboards! Local Leaderboards! Sunset and Nighttime! Evil Mine Ships! Coming soon!

    Hi everyone!

We've been hard at work on update #2, and we're getting really close to submitting it to Apple. But I thought I'd take a bit of time out to share with you one of the most exciting features of the update: New maps!

There are two new maps in update 2, Barrier Islands and Anchor Bay.

    Screenshots:

    Map #2: Barrier Islands

    Map #3: Anchor Bay

To unlock the one of the new maps, you need to reach wave 5 of the previous map.

Also, Anchor Bay has a new enemy ship, the mine ship! You can see it dropping mines in the screenshot above. What happens if your ships hit a mine?

    BOOOOOOOM!

Your ships don't die (your crew is just that good), but the ship that hits the mine is temporarily out of commission while the crew repairs the damage:

I have a bad habit of running into the mines

    Other Changes in Update #2:
    * Local leaderboards! This has been an often requested feature from the ipod touch crowd, so I'm happy to say that we've gotten them in
    * New global leaderboards for the new maps
    * Initial support for day/sunset/night transitions (seen in new maps above)
    * Tweaks to the existing powerups to make them work even better than before
    * The usual assortment of bugfixes and tweaks

We should be submitting this update to Apple this week, I'll post an update when we've sent it off.

Back to the rough seas of bugfixing/tweaking for me, arrr! :D

    I love the tl;dr version :D

I'm pretty excited for this. Why was the game an average of 2 1/2 stars for a while? =/

There was a crash bug in the first version that a few people ran into that I'm sure didn't help. Beyond that, I dunno, the game isn't everyone's bottle of rum I guess. :D

WHAT!? (fully surprised like Mrs. Kravitz witnessing Elizabeth pulling some sort of witchcraft nonsense)

I must be hitting the bottle way too early today. ;)

Yes! The new update looks great. :)

I dont want to be a, for lack of a better word, party-pooper/gate-crasher/smelly old scallywag, but in terms of logic (and this is a game so no logic should apply xD) but wouldn't the bigger ships be able to carry more ammo since their bigger and slower? The smallest ship carries a lot more ammo than the biggest one and it moves about 4x faster too. I know you guys most likely already went over this before so sorry about asking about it. :p

Anyways, the new update seems awesome. Do you guys plan on submitting it today?

    Hi xVietx,

I don't know if we've ever had the conversation about boat size/ammo/speed publicly, but we've sure talked about it a lot internally.

The four major factors in the effectiveness of a ship are the shooting radius, the ammo capacity, damage caused, and the speed.

When we match that to game graphics, we ended up matching ship size to the speed, damage done, and attack radius of the boat. Bigger boat = slower, stronger, & larger radius. It easily could have been based on the amount of ammo the ships held, but then you'd be asking me why the speeds/damage/radii don't match the ship sizes.

Also, since it doesn't seem like everyone has noticed: the bigger ships do more damage. It takes three shots for the schooner to kill an enemy galleon, but your galleon can take it out in a single shot. Maybe it's got less shots because the cannonballs are gigantic! :D

Okay, you see, the bigger boats are using REALLY HUGE cannonballs that somehow allow longer range but tend to weigh the ship down. Perfectly logical. :p

    It's been submitted!

    Hi all!

So I'm here taking Ryan's normal place as "guy who spends too much time trolling touchArcade forums" to say that this update was submitted to Apple and with luck will be available soon.

On a side note, Ryan sends his regrets for not being here himself, but he's currently chained to his desk until he finishes what he's working on, with limited food, water, and visitation rights.

Honestly, I D/L'd it and found it a one trick pony.

Perhaps I will put it back on the device after this update.

    Munkie!

    Hi everyone,

Update #2 for Battle of Pirate Bay is now live in the app store! You can take the fight to the pirates on two new maps, fight off the new pirate mine ships, and more!

I hope everyone enjoys it, and feel free to let me know if you have any suggestions for things to add!

(FYI: The new poll will be going up momentarily, we were just waiting for the app to propagate before we flip the switch)
