Calling Tower Defense gamers: testers needed for OTTTD!

    We're making the game free to play, partially supported by ads and partially by iAP. We're conscious of paywalling though, which is not the goal at all.

    The Go Premium iAP removes ads and also removes the primary iAP mechanism, essentially so the option is there to play it like you bought it and not have concerns of spending further.

    We'll still have the iAP as an option for faster weapon upgrades, but we're trying to balance the game so that people will progress into better weapons naturally.

    One of the things we hope to get from this thread is good feedback regarding that kind of balancing.

    There are two enemy archetypes when it comes to tower damage - many are turreted and fire constantly at any tower or hero they can hit. The other type is forward-shooting, and it varies mission to mission in terms of how aggressive we set them. To attack, they have to stop, so sometimes they have zero tower/hero aggression and pursue the HQ without distraction.

    Were there particular levels you noticed it on?

    Also just some extra notes on balancing:
    - We're well underway on a sizable update to be released soon after launch that will bring "hard mode" to each level, and we see the top/max tier weapons as coming into the natural coin progression mainly at that level of progress. Max weapons are definitely not required for the 21 launch missions.

    By the end game, we expect the hero level to be around early 20s if they were in your roster for most of the campaign, and depending on your skill configuration this is equally important aspect to their effectiveness as the weapon they have equipped.

    We don't yet know what levels the heroes would reach as more levels and modes get added to the game but there's a huge amount of headroom for them to get increasingly badass just through levelups.

    The maximum level for a hero is 99, which fills roughly two thirds of their skill tree (in terms of ranks, not unlocks), so even at that level it's important to think about specialising them toward your particular play-style.

    (also, we have no idea how long it would take to get to 99)

    Last thing: as you guys get further in - please tell us of any levels you found too easy or too hard, basically any abnormalities in the rising difficulty curve :)

    Rockpool took me four or five tries. I did have to substitute one of the heroes due to the death of another, but my approach was fairly consistent. I may have leveled up a small bit through the attempts which helped.

    Would love to test

    Your game. My favorite genre is tower defense. I have well around 70 TD games on my iPhone and iPad.
