I'm going to flying about halfway across the world, with a few overly-long layovers, and I would appreciate any recommendations for some games that travel well.

The problem I have is that in between the stress and sleeplessness, I usually don't have the concentration for any game that's too precise, finicky, or otherwise boring (KRPGs, I'm looking at you). But I'd rather not be stuck playing Fruit Ninja and Tiny Tower across the Atlantic.

So, any suggestions? I need a game that's riveting, immersive, and exciting. Yet doesn't take days to master the necessary skills to enjoy it.

    What do you suggest?

Gonna blatantly plug my own game since no-one else is stepping up.

Great Little War Game is ideal for this sort of play mode. Small missions that can be completed in chunks, but the campaign lasts for hours. There's a lite version if you wanna check it out first.

I think most of my suggestions might be a tad stuffy, but:

    The Quest (Gold, + expansions)

This game could last you a whole trip easy. It's a 3D turn-based PPG with good writing and a lot of variety for the genre. Add in a couple of expansions and you have a lot of different things you can do. Graphics are dated by today's standards, but it's way easy on the battery. :)

    Pocket Heroes 2 (IAP maps)

This is a straight-up clone of Heroes of Might and Magic. Game's benefits are a ton of maps to play on, some with multiplayer capability. There's a good mix of tactical battle game, exploration and RPG/management.

    Puzzle Maniak

20 infinitely-generating logic puzzles with daily challenges.

Undercroft - Similar to The Quest, very much like Dungeon Master II. Currently free!

    Gamebook Adventures 1-6

Best implementation of gamebooks on iOS in my opinion.

Ascendancy / Vincere Totus Astrum / Distant Star / 9 Colonies

The four 4X games on iOS. Actually, there's Civilization Revolution as well.

    Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

Loooots to do in this game.

    Random:

    Red Conquest!
    Peggle (Nights IAP)
Sword of Fargoal / Cavern / 100 Rogues / Rogue Touch
    Any Kairosoft game. :D
    Prisoner 84
    Neuroshima Hex / NS Puzzle
    Rush Hour
    Rooms
    Subway Shuffle
    Strategery
Rhythm Studio (Why not sit back and make some music? ;))

I'd have to add Mr Ninja to that list, soooo addictive. Filled up my time on the way home from Japan.
