Due to extreme boardom I was browsing the App Store. I was looking at the top 100 and I saw NOVA's icon. This made me think of one thought I keep having, "Gameloft sure has some nice icons, but they are all the same style, a closeup of someone's face. This prompted me to search Gameloft on look at all their icons, and noticed all but four of them fit into 5 distinct categories, or mixtures of categories. I proceeded to make this pretty freaking awesome chart (attached below) classifying each Gameloft icon (I have waaay to much free time). Has anyone else ever thought to themself how similar Gameloft icons are, or has my chart enlightened you. Discuss. (Click on the chart to make it bigger)
i just dont like how some of their icons are just cropped game posters(assassins creed, gangstar(previous icon), blades of fury, etc. nice chart btw!
I've always assumed it was just marketing. Their icons are simple, clean and easy to digest. No text in their icons as well. Consistency in their icon design builds brand integrity. It's basically less is more, I've always felt.
Heh, I kinda noticed that too. XD Though, I think the icons are kind of... bland, y'know? But I like their idea for their sports games. A close up of the main object in the game, and the year of the game under it. Nice chart BTW. ;b
Fascinating! Also, most of them are bright colours to attract your attention. Plus, the more that's going on in the picture the more it draws you in. Look at the pocket god ones for example...
of course they're gonna be similar gmaleoft are just a big company who makes games for money. they dont try to be original as they dont need to be. they know we're gonna buy their games anyway they basically do this (imo): 1. find a succesful game franchise(grand theft auto, halo) 2.make a game that gives the same experience and sell it for the iphone/ipod touch 3. never update it again unless need be (bugs etc.) nice chart you made there though!
