Hi, I just installed iOS 4 on my iPod Touch 2nd gen, and my battery life has completely dropped. Even if I am not using my iPod and leave it on a table, the battery life drains quick.

    Anyone else have this problem?

I noticed that but I’ve been using more my iPhone since I updated to iOS 4.

  3. Close everything not being used in multitasking and battery lasts longer.
It lasts around an extra half hour for me now ipod 3gen)

You cannot multi task with an iPod touch 2nd gen

  5. Gah forgot.
I THINK multitasking is in the ios but you can't access it and close apps or open where left of thus meaning battery is used up fast?

The reason why the battery drains like none other without doing anything is because the wifi stays on all the time if you are near a wireless signal. So I would suggest that you use the airplane mode in settings then sleep your iPod.

yeah but does the OS have anything to do with it?

Before iOS4, all my settings were same and I got way way way longer battery life.
Also it seems like I am not the only one

iOS4 is a battery vampire. 30 minutes of gameplay equals about 15% of my battery. I'm afraid to watch a movie. I doubt I'll get to the end. (actually that's not a bad experiment)

Airplane mode disables all incoming and outgoing data so it basiclly turns off cell data and wifi with one single switch.

But why do they have that option now? Wouldn't turning off wifi/bluetooth give the exact same result on a iPod? I can understand for the iPhone because of the cell phone network... Wait a second... Does that mean that the 4th gen Ipod might have 3G like the iPad??? ZOMG!

I think the 3G in an iPod would be unlikely but what I think did happen was that apple when creating ios4 just made master copy say the iPod touch version then added what they wanted / needed to the iPhone copy so when making the os they added it because they already knew you had to have it.

That is true, because if they did have 3g on the ipod it would be a microphone and camera away from being a iPhone I guess..

(Although I hope the 4th gen ipod does have the two cameras and microphone... would give us the ability to add in chat to people in online games.)

that shouldnt be needed though; I never turned off Wi fi on my ipod touch pre iOS4, and my battery life lasted way longer.

I hope Apple releases a patch or something to fix the iOS4.
    It is horrible!

Pretty sure airplane mode is just so you can be certain all radio functions are disabled for when you're on an airplane. Even the DSi has such a mode even though it only transmits data when prompted to.

I haven't noticed a change in battery life, it has always been abysmal when playing games.

people always says the battery drains quicker when wi-fi is left on, well for me i never really noticed a difference; I often leave wifi on when I'm too lazy to go to Settings
