I recently played my first one this last week in ten years probably .
It's called apocalypse meow and it's the best .
I was told sky force was right up there with it. It has upgrades, collecting , ship repairs , ect. Just like I wanted

Are their any other games like these two out their. What are the best titles

    My favorite shmups:

    Decluster Zero
    Danmaku Unlimited 2
    Phoenix HD
    Plasma Sky
    Touch Force
    Galactic Nemesis

I spent hours and hours into Sky Force, but eventually the grind put me off, reason why Apocalypse Meow isnt appealing to me much. I do play Apocalypse Meow now though, so there's that. They are pretty good games, just not really into extensive grinding in shmups.

Apocalypse Meow is great, but it is a complete clone of Sky Force. It's literally the same game with a different skin. I prefer Sky Force, I think it's better looking. Both are very grindy, but great games. I would also check out Sector Strike and Full Blast. Those would be my top recommendations.

I prefer the grind. Gives something more than high score to shoot for . Upgrades and collecting are my favs

There's tons of freemium like those. I believe most of them have "lightning" in their titles which is kinda odd.

Just search the appstore with "shmup." That should be a decent start that'll give you some titles to try.

    Have you tried FullBlast??

I forgot about Gemini Strike, that's another great game.

I've tried all the games from the first list that someone posted.
Phoenix hd was the only other game similar to the two I liked

Well FullBlast was not in that list. Definitely check it out, it's right up there with those other two- https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fullblast!/id908350116?mt=8

    And also Sector Strike- https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/sector-strike/id573606286?mt=8

These are the closest games to what I was looking for.each has a different unique style . But there's is a reason I never played these airplane games. I really don't enjoy them unless they have these Rpg elements in which you can level and upgrade your plane and it has more than a high score bullet dodger scenario.
