Coming October 26th! Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel DoDonPachi Maximum was previously only available on the Windows Phone, but now it's coming to iOS. It is also CAVE's first all-original (ie, not a port) shoot'em up for mobile.
Oh I see. Not super excited about this (first time since Cave started to port their stuff to ios). Hoped for a better title after a hiatus like this. Just bring DDPR: Black Label or Akai Katana to iPhone any day, people will be much more excited. On topic: is this any good? Do not fancy this after seeing some videos; hopefully I'm wrong.
The press release says it does support iphone 5. I would be surprised if there is no retina support. I have played on WP7 and it looks phenomenal. I'm very surprised and excited. Though I would really like DDP-R HD update for iphone 5.
Exactly. This is not a port of an old arcade game, but a new release made specifically for smartphones.
I'm not sure how you know that, I haven't seen any screens or video...but I suppose it could be run letterboxed like a regular pre-iphone 5 app.
Pocketgamer suggests that it will be ipad2+ and iphone4+. It might not support ipod touch 4. We'll see in a week.
I'm not an expert in shmups, hell no,but at Cave's i'm even worse. A reason is this of bullets and colors overwhelming filled screen when i lose the Hitbox and die. Some missing skills on the point- system is another one. Half of Cave's games i bought were deleted after 5-6 weeks (after quite enjoyable gaming sessions). Now i was dissapointed about another DoDon...whatever port. So why bother with this one !? Watched the video and - BANG - gorgeous adorable art style ! And a green Hitbox that i still see and feel after closing my eyes. The music gives me the rest...sold-bought-instabuy !
The main game area needs to stay the same aspect ratio across all devices. If they got rid of the filler artwork and stretched it some devices (iPhone/iPod touch 5) would have a lot more vertical view which would possibly give them an advantage in being able to see what is coming earlier. Also with most of the action being scripted there's probably not even anything happening in that extra area until you get closer. Realistically all a 16:9 update will do is add more of the framing artwork.
Which is actually pretty useful if you don't want your finger to cover over any of the action while controlling the ship.
Sorry, should have clarified. I haven't. It's just an assumption based on every Cave release since about Deathsmiles. I'd be surprised if they suddenly decided to forgo it entirely.
New Cave releases always make me happy, though I wish they'd consider other IP and not another DDP remix, even if this is newly-made for modern devices. I'll see how people like it early on release night, and decide if they snare my iTunes credit.
Are there actual stages/backgrounds in this, or is it set in that 'simulation' backdrop the entire time? That video is confusing to me in this regard...
is this game not supposed to be released today? Hugh?! Havent seen the [NZ] Tag with dodonpachi in the other section. Hopefully the game is not that big i.e. 400+ MB I really loved the filesize of futari
