My Mrs has a thing for the match three genre, of which I know sod all. She's spent about as much time playing Alchemize as I've spent wandering the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Fallout, and she's by now wrung the last drop of enjoyment from it. So anyone have any suggestions as for a replacement?
Bejeweled would be the classic one. Jewel Craft is a decent one too, for the 2P mode. I wouldn't buy it for $3 though, since it's dropped to $1 or free multiple times. Pac-Chomp came out recently too. It's a decent match-3 game, but really it's just targeted at those who have a soft spot for old video game characters. For $1, I think it's worth it, but if you don't care for Pac-Man, I'd say pass.
Liqua pop is a unique take on the genre and is the only "match 3" on my device. I would watch a gameplay video first to be sure you like it though.
Both of you should take a look at Dungeon Raid. Not exactly a match 3 but the game is so fun and addictive I highly doubt you won't like it.
Sounds like you are after casual match-3 games, which Dungeon Raid and Puzzle Quest are not (though they're great games, especially Dungeon Raid and the first Puzzle Quest). My favorite casual match 3s are, in roughly this order: Treasures of Montezuma 2 Linkoidz Piyo Blocks 2 Azkend Smiles Power Gems Chuzzle Heroes of Kalevala Bejeweled 2 Blackout Alchemize is sort of also a falling blocks game, so some kind of similar games I like (besides Tetris of course) are: Unify Compression Sigma Puzzle Cosmos Also, if she might like having a card/poker theme in her puzzle games (nothing suggests that, but these are casual and fun matching games that I want to mention): Sword & Poker 1 and 2 Poker Smash Hope that helps a bit...I've certainly forgotten some great games but these are the ones I'd recommend after giving my device a once-over.
Bejeweled 2 is the most popular one, but it got boring fast. Currently playing Bejeweled 3 on my laptop and it's wayyy better, I'd recommend that one when it comes out for iOS.
PIYO BLOCKS 2!!!!!!!!!! It's an extremely underrated app; it has many modes, skins and is addicting. By the devs of Meow Meow Happy Fight and Landapanda.

I know the problem ... I really love the first Puzzle Quest (still my favorite) and I am looking too for similar follower! I have Dungeon Raid, Chuzzle, Sword & Poker and Sparkle. But no one is as great as PQ ... maybe it´s the rpg/character-element. Can someone help? Any ideas? ^__^;
if you got an ipad check out Corpse Craft. its a match 3/ tower defense hybrid. its starts off easy, but gets super hard about halfway through. great game with excellent music, graphics, and formula. highly recommended!!
Here are all of my match-3 games-- the ones I thought were worth keeping. I also have Dungeon Raid, but it's in my Roguelike folder. edit: i forgot that I had a "falling blocks" folder, which has games a little more similar to Alchemize (especially Cash Machine). Also, a Puzzle Bobble/Bust a move-like folder.
Alchemize is actually pretty darn different from most match 3's, its more of a deep think game than a match quick game. Sure you *can* deep think in many match 3's, many of which have untimed modes, but in Alchemize, you more or less have to think -- its a very different feel, at least to me. A fondness for Alchemize makes me think that she would like Drop 7, which is not technically a match 3 game. It does, however, have a very similar feel to Alchemize and is well loved on this forum.
People have mentioned all of these already I think, but here are some I enjoyed: Azkend Piyo Blocks 2 - this is the best traditional Bejeweled-like one Dungeon Raid (it's "hardcore" but it's also super fun) LiquaPop Around the World in 80 Days Egg vs. Chicken - more of a speed/reflexes defense game but still fun Push Panic! Bird Zapper! - it is free today
