A number of Sega releases have dropped from $2.99 to $0.99. So far these include... ChuChu Rocket! ChuChu Rocket! HD Golden Axe 2 Golden Axe 3 Gunstar Heroes Streets of Rage 2 Streets of Rage 3
Definitely ChuChu! Rocket, one of Sega's best games along with Sonic & Sega all star racing. The interface is great, controls are perfect, framerate is butter smooth, retina display is supported and you can even play online multiplayer against friends. Suffice to say, it feels like the team actually puts their heart and effort into this, something we can't say about the lazy genesis ports.
Chu Chu Rocket stands out in that it was actually made for iOS* - the other games are all good, but SEGA's emulator leaves a lot to be desired. That being said, I picked up Streets of Rage 2 as it has coop multiplayer and is my favorite game of the series. *Meaning ported properly for iOS, obviously it's not a new game!
Is Streets of Rage 2 worth it even if I've never played the original? Bluetooth Co-op sounds tempting!
The first Streets of Rage is kind of a disappointment but Streets of Rage 2 is an absolute classic and for 99 cents there's no reason not to pick it up. Streets of Rage 3 is is also incredible but most people agree that 2 is the best of the series.
Yes - it's a side-scrolling beat-em-up, no need to worry about story or anything. The game is much better than the original. SoR3 is a mixed bag - graphics are better, there's more combos, but the characters are more dorky (IMHO) and the levels are much more brutal/repetitive/uninteresting.
If you are considering any of these games. Consider Chu Chu Rocket. SOOOOO much levels and content for 99c.
I was really looking forward to Gunstar Heroes, as it's one of my all time favorite SEGA games... but it sucks that they used the crappy emulator set-up for the controls. It could have been one hell of a great iOS game if they re-did the controls, and maybe had Treasure polish up the graphics a bit... But for a buck, I might just end up buying it... =o/
