On June 28th 1914 separatist assassination attempt against Franz-Ferdinand, Austrian heir of throne, failed miserably. Gavrilo Princip took aim and pulled the trigger only to find his gun clicking, feebly. The gun was jammed and Grand Duke escaped unscathed. With this single mechanical failure the seed of First World War was never sown, and without the humiliation of Versaille's there was no wind to fan the flames for a second one. Adolf Hitler had to make his living as a mediocre marketplace artist at the streets of Vienna instead of becoming the dangerous, dictatorial dreamer he would otherwise have been. But without two global wars to drive the technology forward the world of 1951 remains much like the world at the turn of the century - colonialism upholding imperial economies and withering alliances cemented with royal marriages. It's Imperialism iced with biplanes and rock'n roll! It's a fantastic game. Tilt controls are great.. they are "analog" so the more you tilt, the faster you spin. Menus and presentation are all top notch. Graphics - specifically the weather effects are fantastic! It's a challenging game. You can also get upgrades (light rpg elements). And when you die, you don't start back at level 1.. they rank you, and start you maybe 1 level from where you left off. I play a lot of "flying" games-- mostly shmups, but this is a very welcome diversion. I hope they add more rpg elements and upgrades too! $1.99 is a great price point. Buy it! Menu display, background, models, effects; all polished exquisitely. The gameplay itself is quite entertaining. As someone above me noted, I'd like to see more RPG elements and perhaps some updates in the future. That's why I'm hoping this game becomes popular. I also recommended it to one of the Editors on here in hopes they review it and boost its sales. We'll see. Anyhow, great start devs, impressive game. Hopefully this is just the beginning. eugekava Well-Known Member Jul 8, 2009 2,707 0 36 Melbourne, Australia #16 eugekava, Jul 30, 2010 I really love this game. Got it yesterday and played for about 2 hours. The perks/upgrade system reminded me of the Fallout and Fallout 2 a bit. I like the ability to use various maneuvers to defeat enemies or shake the enemy off my tail. I was initially a little concerned by jagged edges on the airplanes' outline in screenshots, but in game the airplanes look amazing. I also like the weather changes between overcast, rain and clear. Actually during one playthrough my view was almost comletely obscured by clouds, forcing me to find clear patches to fight in. During dogfightd you have to be careful to avoid collisions, because they cause most damage to an airplane. The fun factor of this game is 10/10. I can certainly recommend this game. If you remember in the original Fallout games each perk had a funny cartoonish drawing representing it. You get the same thing here. For example, extra armour has a drawing of a tin bucket with 2 holes for eyes, cooldown improvement for guns has a drawing of a bear with fur on a half of his body shaved off. The entire style of the game has that 50s tinge. Its awesome! Edit. Actually, on the subject of Perks. It seems that you get to choose between 2 perks everytime you level up. The perks that you choose become part of your perk list. The perks that are discarded don't seem to appear again. There are 3 pilots you can choose from initially when you start the game: Dandy Boy, Bad Apple, Stiff Upper Lip. Apart from having different skull art they also have unique "Personal Abilities" that improve as you level up. For example Dandy Boy has a "Gun" ability. When you activate it in battle the closest enemy gets "targeted". The damage you deal to targeted aircraft is so huge that it causes almost instant kill. Bad Apple pilot has an apple personal ability that allows (when activated) ramming enemy aircraft with minimal damage to oneself. Instructions do not explain a lot of that and its something you work out as you play. Still, I hope the devs include detailed instructions on how perks are earned, how they can be leveled up, if at all. I'd also like to know the effect of levelling up on "Personal Abilities".
