Don't forget, if you have an 8GB 3rd gen, you won't have the same features as 32Gb or 64GB. I've got iOS4 and have no problems. Any games that were a bit dodgy soon got an update to fix it.

if its 32gb and up, i say go for it. I did it straight away after reading a bit about it and its great. 400plus apps, never had a problem, just reboot once in a while

You can only update it on a thusday, so you'll probably have to wait another week now, but go for it!

    Hahah okay.

One more question. Will it wipe my itouch and force me to reload all the apps. I dont wanna lose any savegame data.

No, they always do a back-up. And I always do several manual back-ups to be sure! :D

This is true. I forgot to mention that earlier.

I updated my iPod Touch (I consider it a 2nd gen but... bought last fall) and I haven't had any problem so far.

Yes, a few apps glitched a little at the beginning according to devs, but this should be resolved by now, and there are a couple of advantages
    - App folders.
    - Support for multisampling. Can help getting a finer picture for some 3D games.

iPod touch rocks! Got me back playing, and finally got me developing my first game. Love it!

the update wont mess up any apps, patces for most have since improved heaps of games- i noticed this. And u gotta look forward to next year, there are so many high spec os4 games coming. Os4 is the future for now, deal with it hey, you wont regret it. And yeah, folders are totally indespensable, its practically common sence. 32 or 64gb 3rd gens have more than enough grunt to deal with the upgrade, anyway is4 is not going away, the longer u leave
it the harder u make things on yourself. Go for it pal.

when u sync, set auto backups and reboot after u install a bunch of high spec apps, be smart and u will have no worries. Youll be fine, i gotta feeling the next ipod touch will have shortcomings. Nothing really good will come out for 2 years, just roll with it. Keep up do date, thats my final advice on the matter, and i researched all this carefully. And yeah the 8gb '3rd'gen was utter corporate crap and lies, stick with 3rd gen 32gb and up for now, sit back and let the innovation wars rage for a while before u drop big dollars. Be patient, just look at 3rd gen processor specs and ram, screw retina display for now, lets face it, most devs havent caught up with it yet. And that will take a year or 2, not months, trust me.

I've been wondering the same thing. But I have the re-released 2nd gen 8gb iPod touch. What are the pros and cons of updating to iOS 4.0 for me?

And how long will it take to update my iOS?
