I'm using GooglePlay for achievements and leaderboards. My understanding is that those permissions are necessary for the scores to be recorded.
I've pushed an update that improves Leaderboard and Achievement code by removing the need for "Identify" permission. Previously, excluding this permission resulted in a crash when trying to report scores/achievements. This is no longer the case. It also fixes a bug where the game would crash if you signed out of Google Play Games in the middle of the game.
