Both of these games have pretty similar gameplay... and I've heard RP has better graphics, while BfW is longer. Which one should I get?
Matter of opinion. Rogue Planet: -better graphics and lots of eye candy -more realistic -has a compelling, interesting storyline -150+ hours of gameplay -smoother and much better frame rate -Bluetooth, Local Wi-Fi, and online Wi-Fi multiplayer Battle for Wesnoth: -passable graphics -many different types attacks and spells -fantasy themed storyline -300+ hours of gameplay -possible slow frame rate and animations -cross platform multiplayer (you can play against people on your iPhone or iPod Touch that are playing Battle for Wesnoth on their PCs and Macs) I'm not voting, since they're both great games.
I agree with Kunning, but I voted Rogue Planset because I'm playing it more. I bought BfW and played for a bit... then went back to Rogue Planet...
Get both. Play through Rogue Planet in a few days then go back to Wesnoth for the next year or so! Seriously though, which is better? Chess or checkers? Apple or Orange? Advance Wars or Fire Emblem? It's a matter of personal taste. Both RP and Wesnoth are awesome games, go beg your parents for $5 if you're poor
No, that was a mistake. Rogue Planet does not have online multiplayer, just local LAN type multiplayer. Online multiplayer is promised in a future update.
that's cool i'm not much into this kind of game i just want to play something different to me i prefer better graphics and good storyline so without considering the hours of gameplay, what would you recommend?
Do you have access to a PC or Mac, If so, I'd download Wesnoth and give it a try. It's free, so you got nothing to lose.
I guess it is a matter of opinion which graphics you think are better... I like Wesnoth because the units have more character and are so varied.. All 200 of them. Many have idle animations, like feeding horses, stretching their legs, or skeletons juggling their heads. But if you just want "graphics and story" then maybe you should get Rogue Planet. I've been playing it and it's great. (In case you didn't know, I'm the guy that did the Wesnoth port)
Of course Rogue Planet since I really can't stand another game with a "medieval mixed with magic" setting. Enough is enough, I beg every developer to stop overusing this setting that damn much! And I also can't tolerate frame rate problems because it hurts my eyes. I know Wesnoth from the Mac Version and found it to be boring.
If you're not a hardcore strategist, BFW will have you crying within a few levels. I strongly suggest RP for the casual gamer looking for a fun and good looking tbs.
But Wesnoth does have 3 difficulty settings, so if you're a crybaby I recommend first completing the tutorial that teaches you basic tactics like how to use terrain to your advantage, then playing the first campaign on easy difficulty. But it's true that even on "easy", you have to use some strategy, it's no push-over. Personally I found RP frustrating in a "omg I clicked somewhere wrong, now I have to start all over! Why no save system??" kind of way...
It's so awesome to have two killer games like this and you can have both for less than a tenner. If strategy games are your genre then no brained to get both.
Very well said. I would never want to compare these two games. I enjoy them both and to me, even though they are TBS both games they play completely different. I vote Wesnoth because of the content, characters, the stories really pull you in and keep you engaged, there is never a dull moment, gameplay never feels repetitive. I haven't spent enough time playing Rouge Planet so i wont discredit it. Rouge Planet is as new as its release date and Battle for Wesnoth is a proven seasoned vet. Seriously, I don't recommend comparing the two. Whether you are or aren't on the ropes about Rouge Planet and/or Battle for Wesnoth.... GET BOTH!
Alright so Battle for Wesnoth is more for the hardcore gamer... what other games are like that? (i dont want to make a new thread cause its not worth it)
