Apparently using isometric game/map designs is better for projecting 3d images from 2d animations.

I'm just wondering what's the difference between using a square design vs isometric (diamond)... Why can't I use the same 2d animations on a square shaped map?

Are you talking about having a world rotated 45 degrees around the Y axis as opposed to having the world parallel to the X axis?? Personally I don't see that much difference and it depends on the game. We are right now making a game where the world is not rotated 45 degrees. I think it really comes down to the type of game. A god game or an RTS I would think an isometric map is better as it shows 2 sides of things as opposed to just the one side.
