Hi everyone! We are a small team of Unity developers from Studio Pepwuper, and we started working on this project about 3 months ago. The idea is simple - to re-create our childhood memories of playing with neighborhood kids. Essentially it's a family-friendly version of CTF where players are divided into two teams and compete in real-time against each other. And here's the twist: each player brings one Giant into the game to help them. The Giants are AI-assisted so you don't control them directly, but rather you issue commands and they act accordingly. We have our first Giant in the game now (the powerful Rock Giant George) and will be adding another Engineer-Robot-type Giant soon. Development Screenshot: Here's a video of what we've built so far, click the image below to go to the YouTube video (don't know how to embed it on the forum directly...) We are building it for both touch and mouse/keyboard interface. Let us know what you think! Especially on the art style and game concept/idea. We are still early in the process so the more feedback the better! And don't forget to check our blog http://www.pepwuper.com/blog/ Thanks!!! edit: just found out how to embed YouTube video!
1. Zoom in/out function will be a definite necessity. 2. The graphic looks nice but not eye-catching way... Maybe you can use more vibrant colors on the background (ie buildings, streets, pedestrians, etc) 3. Maybe you can add a video of the gameplay more in detail...
Yes Zoom in/out is going to be implemented, and good point about making the visual more vibrant. The game looks better on the PC/Mac with the effects we applied, but not as good on the iPad. Still working on adding lighting and mor props to the scene. Oh yes about gameplay... hopefully we'll have a playable build in 2-3 weeks for you to try your hands on! Thanks!
Looking forward for more Information about the actual Gameplay since the Trailer didn`t Answer every Question i had so far.
A small playable demo to show you how to control your giant in the game! The Rock Giant will follow you and attack other players nearby. Press “Q” and click on the ground to have him punch and deal area damage there. Press “W” and click on the ground to have him create a wall at that point Play It Here
Thanks! We still need to add more props and work on lighting and effects. Very happy you like the art direction!
I'm just curious about the control scheme - obviously it works quite well with mouse and keyboard, but how are you going to handle the equivalent on a touchscreen? Very intrigued...
We are experimenting with having two rotating wheels at the bottom of the screen, and you basically rotate them to the item you want to use, and then tap the screen to use it. For the Giant, since you don't directly control it, you can just set it to one "mode" and it'll do things on its own, or similar to using an item, you select it from the wheel and tap the screen to issue a direct command. Still experimenting with it but seems to work ok so far
It's been a while since our last update. We've been busy refactoring all the networking codes and migrating the project to uLink. Here's a video of the current state of the game. We are holding back on migrating art assets until later so it doesn't look as good as previous versions yet, but now we have the giants all synchronized! Blog Post: http://www.pepwuper.com/giants-synchronized-in-new-version/ YouTube:
Robot vs Rock For the past few weeks weve been working on adding a second Giant, Nick the Robot, into the game. The Robot Giant is similar to the Engineer in Team Fortress, someone who can build turrets! (55 sec mark on the video) The turret detects enemy within range, and rotates to the target and starts shooting. In this video, you can see how it works, as well as the chaotic action that can occur between Giants from different teams. I was running all three games (server, player 1, player 2) on my laptop so the game gets a bit laggy sometimes which caused synchronization issues something we continue to optimize. Also the 3D model for the Robot giant is still in development, so we are currently borrowing Lerp from the Unity3D tutorial for prototyping. (blog post: http://www.pepwuper.com/robot-vs-rock/)
Not exactly in-game screenshots, but we are toying with the idea of creating a comic strip series to go with the game. Or use them in cut-scenes somewhere. What do you guys think of this manga style? original blog post: http://www.pepwuper.com/character-sketches-manga-style/
We are still working on getting the Robot Giant modeled, but here's a time-lapse video to show you what we've created so far! :coffee: 10-min video http://vimeo.com/38958302 40-min version http://vimeo.com/38897132 original blog post: http://www.pepwuper.com/time-lapse-modeling-the-robot-giant-nick-part-1/
I love the manga-styled art, and think that would great to to use in cut-scenes and/or as a comic, as you mentioned. The production videos have been great to view to follow the game's progress. I'm really excited about this title, and hope it continues to progress well and quickly; needless to say, I can't wait to play it!
Thanks AnarKitty! Here's some more manga style graphic for you! Our first comic strip to introduce the first two characters in My Giants! full-size: http://www.pepwuper.com/my-giants-comics-1-oiiiiiiiiiii/ more about My Giants: http://www.pepwuper.com
Part 2 of our time-lapse video to show you how the Robot Nick is created is out today. What do you guys think so far? 10-min video http://vimeo.com/39171387 26-min version http://vimeo.com/39169275 original blog post: Time-lapse: Modeling the Robot Giant Nick Part 2
