We are almost done with All Hallow's Eve: Bella Boo, but we still trying to decide whether or not to include Virtual Joystick controls. We already have Touch Movement controls and Tilt (accelerometer) Movement controls.

So what is your favorite kind of movement control among these three?
    1. Touch - player moves to the spot on the screen that was touched.
    2. Accellerometer - tilt your device in the direction you want to move the player.
    3. Virtual Joystick - Simulated joystick, like minigore, minisquadron, and alive4ever

What genre is it? It really depends on that for the best controls

Can't think of a genre to put it into. It's pretty unique. The player has a trail behind her, which is drawing a line. When the line makes a completed circle around monsters, zombies, or haunted objects, they are destroyed. The length of the line is limited, plus the monsters are moving, so precision is helpful.

    Thanks,
    Randy

With that touch/drag to move Is best. Make sure you can control it from anywhere on the screen and not just on top of your character or right below him. Space Invaders Infinity Gene is a good example of this it avoids fingers getting in the way. Tilt control, if refined, would also be a good option. I wouldn't use a joystick for this type of game. I doubt you need to add it, but more options never Hurt. Game sounds fun by the way!

There's this game on Miniclip that has that exact same premise. This one here. Maybe it'll give you some ideas.

It sounds like that one game, upsi looper I think it was called.

They used tilt controls for it and I enjoyed that.

From what I'm taking from this, joystick controls would be a nightmare. Accelerometer could work, but tilt was a good idea.

The virtual joystick is IMO the best control mechanism so far. It offers greater control than I expected to get out of the iPhone... I think for more "hardcore" gamers it's the best option... I personally feel more "precise" control with it...

The accelerometer is nice... but personally I feel the control isn't precise enough for me anyway... but it might just be me... I'm awful at Doodle Jump.

When I played iDracula for the first time I was so pleasantly surprised... that you could have such a fast-paced action shooter with such great control on the iPhone...

    Wow, the results are overwhelming.

I'll be implementing the Virtual Joystick right away.

Minigore's joystick is by far the best, so ours will work like that one.

    Thanks everyone!
