I have been playing the prerelease of helix by smestorp for the past few weeks, and really enjoying it. Smestorp made both glitch tank and zaga-33. Helix is more of a arcade style heavily skill based game where you need to destroy enemies by doing loops around them. Some of the enemies chase you, some don't, some require specific direction loops, and some require multiple loops. It is totally addictive, I have been playing it for 1.25 hour stretches on my train commute, and any downtime at my job. Each game lasts between 10 seconds and a minute, and you always feel like you could have just bested your old score. Here is a screen from it, it is kinda hard to not die while taking them though: I am not really sure when it is coming out, but I wanted to post this up because it deserves a whole heap of sales. I got permission from smestorp to make this post, but I am not smestorp. He does live just a few towns away from me though, so I see him sometimes. Hopefully this isn't a conflict of interest.
Not that I am aware of. Is there an easy way to make videos without having a jailbroken device? I could try and shoot one using a camera, but I don't have a tripod, and I would be shooting off of a phone, which probably wouldn't show off this game too well. I can try to do something on monday though, I have an ipad at the office, and a camera with a tripod.
helix is an honorable mention in this years igf in the excellence in design category. Hopefully that means that smestorp is going to finish it up
just want to top this thread and mention that smestorp is working on this again... it is so good, there is a new boss, maybe it was in the old version and I was never good enough to see it?
well, I know that smestorp is still working on it, he showed it last weekend at rezzed, an indie and pc game expo here in the UK. I wasn't there, but there is a nice writeup of helix on indiestatik.
