Reviews from various websites and players :

« This looks a blast from the past! »
« The series is incredible, and probably will be the closest thing to a real pen and paper RPG experience that ever makes it to an iOS device »
« The app itself is brilliant. Graphics are glorious, and the quality is top notch. Obviously, the writing is amazing, and is probably the best written game book available on iOS ».
« Greatest game book ever! This game is a must-have in my book. I played for about 3 hours straight, and I can't really put this game into solid words without giving things way, but let me put it this way... The game is open world. You can do whatever you want ».
« Trust me whole hardly when I say," If you like gamebooks you HAVE to buy this game"»
« I really think this game does a great job of streamlining and redefining the whole gamebook genre. This game feels more immersive and fun than the others games in the genre ».

« You think it's a gamebook because you know there's a print version. With the other gamebook adaptions, that's very apparent, they don't even try to hide it or make life easier for you. The first few that I bought, I always thought it was cute because it reminded me of the paper gamebooks I own, but that eventually wore off and now I always only think "why couldn't they use the advantages of the platform better". This game is an example of how to do that. It doesn't give up too much of the gamebook feel to be something entirely different, but it doesn't let me do all the work either, keeps track of stuff for me, and so on. »
« Been playing Fabled Lands for about a couple of hours now and all I can say is I'm really loving it. Gamebooks really shine when used on iPhone. The artwork and style is quite riveting. Not to mention the experience in taking you further in the mind of Dave Morris's creation in another different or perhaps deeper perspective ».

Based on the masterpiece gamebook series "Fabled Lands" by legendary authors Dave Morris (Golden Dragon, Dragon Warriors) and Jamie Thomson (Way of the Tiger).

Yeah, even 64 gbs isn't enough... Mine is always full... Now 128 gb would have been nice

    Downloading now.

Not worth downloading. Game seems like a lite version asking one everywhere to purchase full version. Also game is not too fun, and for some reason takes a very long time to install.

I'm happy to be able to give this a try. :) So, thanks for that.

The main reason why I never got it despite hearing a lot of good things about this one is that I would rather they finish making all the episodes and package it as one complete game rather than buy in episodes-as-they-come.

That's just why I didn't buy it. I'm waiting for a final full release. But sure I'll give it a go for nothing.

Damn just buy fabled lands 2 gold a couple of weeks back at full price, figured that it was the kind of game that would never go down in price by too much, thats the appstore for you! Pretty good game though, nice deal for sure.

I bought this when it first came out then they came out with the stupid gold edition that is so much cheaper and with the bonus in game gift. Really annoying. At least the 3rd book will be a standalone per the author's wish. At least that was the news I heard then.

    Hello.
I am the manager for Megara and Fabled Lands.
We did not intend to lower the price that much or to set the first app free.
I did it because the authors have decided that :
    - My company Megara will not design any other Fabled Lands apps in the future
    - Our license for the first game will not be renewed and on July 20th the two base apps will be removed for the store. Fabled Lands II will however be allowed to stay on the store one more year after which we'll have to remove it as well.

The authors have taken this decision based on 2 factors :
    - Our fabled lands apps were the most profitable gamebook apps ever designed on the app store but they thought it was still not profitable enough.
    - They wanted in the hope of more profit to relaunch the Fabled Lands apps but with a developer capable of doing it on all platforms at once not only Apple. Megara was not in a position to do this as our coders are mainly iOS coders.
I have heard that the new version of Fabled Lands 1 by that other developer will be out this year. Megara will have nothing to do with it and we have not licensed them anything like our art.

I was sad to hear that, and my team was sad too, but that was the author's decision only - Megara had even started FL3 production when we heard the bad news.

    A global note :

Whether or not you enjoy our products, we stay commited to reinvesting 98% of our apps earnings to develop new apps. We have been true to that since 2009. Arcana Agency Prologue financed Fabled Lands 1. Fabled Lands 1 financed Fabled Lands 2. Fabled Lands 2 financed the recent Keep of the Lich Lord app. The Keep of the Lich Lord was supposed to finance Fabled Lands 3, but as you read above it won't be the case. However, I can say to you that it is currently instead financing Arcana Agency, the sequel to the prologue (still available on the store) released in 2009. A HD sequel that will make use of the technology we developed over the years.
If you use facebook, you can join our Arcana Agency development group here and see some exclusive new screenshots from this upcoming game :

I'm really sorry to hear that. I've always thought that your products were brilliant, especially your customer communications.
I really hope your future products are successful and allow you to continue doing what you obviously love to do.
I'll be sure to follow your company and purchase your apps to show you my support.

Thank you for your support, Felonius.
After Arcana Agency, we will release in summer 2013 a Fabled Lands-like game in our own universe this time, so that no external author can ask us to remove our products in the future for this or that reason. We will be free!
On another topic, I'm pleased to announce that Megara is opening a branch to develop pen and pencil RPGs, and we signed the worldwide rights to publish in english in 2013 the Way of the Tiger Roleplaying Game based of the legendary Way of the Tiger gamebook series.
You can follow our work on the Way on the Tiger rulebook here :

The problem with that mindset is that if people don't buy the episodic titles, the developer is highly unlikely to have either the inclination or the funds to get to the point where they even can have a "final full release". I'd say that the situation the developers now find themselves in is attributable to this in part.

It certainly doesn't help that half of the comments regarding such a release would from people complaining about how "expensive" the app is, and saying that they'll just wait for it to drop to $1/free, meaning that the developer would almost certainly end up with a negative balance from the whole project.

As for the news about a new developer taking over and relaunching the series, I think they're in for a pretty big shock if they expect people who have already forked out for the first two titles to do so again for what is basically the exact same game, on the iOS side of things at least.

I have been talking with the 2 devs on twitter. And I have made that last point about current customers, whether something will be done or not. Awaiting to hear back.

Meanwhile what I confirmed from them: "We've got a developer who is going to put out books 1-6 on multiple platforms (inc Android). More news very soon."

Looking forward to the Way of the Tiger. It's a classic really. Have all the six books but on the ipad, it's gonna be great. Also congrats about the FL like gamebook that you guys are gonna produce yourself.

Well first I've got no problem with the price as I own all the gamebook series and all the fighting fantasy and some others. (nearly all of which I bought straight away at full price)
The main thing here that stopped me buuying it was the fact is incomplete, I read people's posts in the main forum saying there were paths you would go down and it would be a dead end saying coming soon or in episode 2 etc.
Well its failed to sell and IMO that's probably partly due to the way it's been made, if it had have been a complete game it probably would have done much better.

Yeah this. Really kills the immersion. I've played it some today and I just don't like it like that at all.

I understand it is adapted from the books. It might be ok for books to be that way, maybe the system works for the books, but a game that has option to go a certain location, and when one tries to and gets a message "coming soon" or "do you want to buy chapter 2". Not so good, imho.

Actually there were suppose to be 12 books or so but only 6 were ever released so even the books were incomplete but it gathered a large fanbase. This huge world over many books is pretty much a first in that era.

Haha this made me lol, so even the books are incomplete so the chance of ever seeing a complete iOS game is never going to happen. Epic fail from the beginning.
