Also available: The award-winning Dungeons & Dragons® expansions for Lords of Waterdeep – Scoundrels of Skullport and Undermountain! Welcome to Waterdeep, the City of Splendors! A city run by a secret society of masked Lords who rule with shady back-door dealings and unmatched political power. In Lords of Waterdeep players will play as one of these masked Lords and will need to recruit adventurers to go out and complete quests for them. The more quests they complete, the more control and influence they have over the city. Players can expand the city by purchasing buildings that will open up new opportunities within the city walls. Intrigue cards can be used to help the player and may also either help or hinder their fellow Lords in their quest to become the supreme ruler of Waterdeep! Lords of Waterdeep is a turn-based strategy game played in 8 rounds and can be played against AI or with up to 5 human players. Players take turns assigning their agents to do their bidding, whether it is to recruit new adventurers to their tavern or purchase a new building for the city. Points and resources are gained by completing quests, playing Intrigue cards, constructing new buildings or having other players utilize the buildings you have constructed. At the end of the 8 rounds bonus points are awarded and the player with the most points at the end wins the game. It adds a lot of new cards to every category but more importantly the added cards are interesting and open a lot, really a lot, of new strategic plays; making it a bit easier to win actually. I have not acquired yet the expansion but the game is great. I am new to LoW and I think it's very good, especially if you like board games. I have played "stone age" and "catan" which is somehow similar due to resources and buy buildings etc but I believe this game is better. I've bought Lords of Waterdeep today because it was giving me sort of Sorcery! 2 vibe with beautiful animated background and nice UI, but honestly didn't expect to stick with it as other boardgames because of possible complexity of rules and high learning curve for new players. After playing it for some hours, I can however now say that this game not only looks beautiful , but it was also the easiest game for me to learn. Simply amazing digital version of popular boardgame. 5/5 out of me vii-Lucky Well-Known Member Jul 28, 2013 1,611 0 0 #10 vii-Lucky, Mar 27, 2014 Is this game somehow similar to Card wars - Adventure time? spader623 Well-Known Member Jan 18, 2014 479 0 0 #11 spader623, Mar 27, 2014 No not at all. If you want that, you'd probably want something similar to say... The penny arcade card game, or shadow era. I'm gonna dive into this kind of games. And is LoW somehow similar to Ascension? nkarafo Well-Known Member Mar 2, 2011 860 9 18 #14 nkarafo, Mar 27, 2014 I have not played Agricola but I have heard that it's complicated and not so easy to learn but the ios version of the original board game is very very good. No, LoW is not at all similar to Ascension. Ascension is a card battle game. LoW is a strategic game with resources, complete quests, damage opponents, scoring, etc. The one is a only a card game and the other is digital board game where also many people can play. There are also videos in youtube to understand better.
