I'm playing through Soosiz and really enjoying it, but it's more like a 2D version of Super Mario Galaxy than a traditional Mario platformer (although it absolutely nails the 2D platforming control scheme). Are there any games out there in the wild blue yonder of the app store that are similar to the classic Mario games (and done well)?

Only one I can think of right now is Spy Bot Chronicles.

True, forgot about CoS. Guess because I didn't really like it, but I think it's only a buck right now so it might be worth the risk.

Castle of Magic for sure, but the controls are weak. I liked Bounce On which is a lot like Mario. The first world is a little weak, but after that it's great. World 4 is full of lots of mario features, secret passages, cool power ups, etc.

Check out "Bounce On." Very similar in style to classic Mario, and an excellent game -- one of my favorites.

I liked Bob's Dream (aka Jumpman). It's kinda like Mario, graphics are a little meh, but it's still fun. There's a lite version, so you could always give it a try.

EDIT: It looks like this game is no longer on the US store... sorry about that.

My votes go for Castle of Magic, which I thoroughly enjoyed, 1-Biit Ninja, which I am currently enjoying (hard as it may be),and Soosiz, which is tough but a lot of fun.

Surprised that no one mentioned Pizza Boy. Best plat former out there imo and amazingly responsive controls.

Not really a Mario me-too, but League of Evil is clearly the best iOS plateformer. Great controls.

Else, exactly on the Mario style, I'd go with pizza boy.

    Giana Sisters!!

I'd definitely go with GIANA SISTERS - a remake of an older C64/Amiga game. It's interesting to note that the original 8/16 bit releases inthe early 90's brought about a threatened lawsuit from Nintendo - because the game was TOO close to Super Mario Bros. :) In any case, Giana Sisters imho comes the closest to the original Super Mario experience than any of the other iOS platformers, even closer than Castle of Magic. If you're looking for a 3-D Mario Bros experience (super Mario world and later) on iOS, there simply isn't one yet. Long story short: get Giana Sisters! guarantee you'll get hooked.
