iPhone Syz: EG, the first true multitouch space shooter on the Apple iPad!

    We are Team Krinoid, a brand new game studio based in Santa Cruz, CA consisting of UC Santa Cruz game design graduates, and winners of the first game of the year award at the UCSC Sammy Awards. Our first game is “Syz: EG,” a multitouch space shooter soon to be released on the Apple iPad. The game has been submitted and is waiting approval by Apple.

    This is a story-driven, episodic mutli-touch space shooter unlike anything seen before on the Apple iPad. It started as a senior project for eight Computer Science: Game Design students, one Literature Major, and one Art Major at the University Of California, Santa Cruz. After spending way more than the allotted class time working on the game, it became apparent that we wanted to start our our independent game studio in Santa Cruz and develop the IP further.

    Some notable features of our game:

    - First true multi-touch space shooter to be released. Control where you are aiming your weapon with one finger while dodging enemy bullets with the other. The separation of these two functions feels intuitive, allows for innovative game mechanics not easily replicated on other platforms, and separates "Syz: EG" from every other space shooter on the App Store.

    - No auto-fire or drawn-on controls allow for an immersive experience as you and the Syzygy Crew take on the Fringe Republic!

    - 6 Unique abilities, such as a circular shield that reflects bullets and a hacker that can hack into enemy ships. But don't worry, there's also lasers for the classic shmup fan. Each ability has its own strengths and weaknesses, so switching off between them mid-battle is key to survival.

    - View the battle from multiple perspectives: During certain parts of levels, the camera will shift between the common "Top-Down" and "Side-View" perspectives found in all space shooters. This makes the game feel more dynamic and allows us to craft interesting and memorable levels that could not be possible in other space shooters.

    - A gripping narrative that propels the game forward, with over 350 lines of fully voiced and animated dialogue. We are trying to achieve an episodic structure for our games, with each episode containing the amount of story found in an episode of television. The story and dialogue are very integral to the gameplay, unlike most space shooters, so the characters are constantly talking to each other!

    - A Freeplay Mode where you can endlessly battle waves of Fringe Fighters!


    We are excited to get our storyline started and hope to make many more games that tell stories within the universe we have created in the future!
