When playing normally you get to update your die and whatnot. Gotta say, love we were given the option to have a small file size and low quality graphics/music, or download higher res graphics and better quality music. It's less than 100 MB after the initial App Store download and goes up a couple of hundred MBs after the high res download. Did anyone take a dive and try it? I enjoyed The Warlock of Firetop Mountain but that had a fun battle system and I'm not sure I'm sold on all the dice rolls here seen in the trailer. solarnya Well-Known Member Jul 22, 2015 897 284 63 Male Close to Tokyo, Japan #6 solarnya, Jul 27, 2017 Fun game so far! I always thought of playing text-based RPG(or gamebook) so I bought Sorcery! series I can understand English a bit but I wanted to play Japanese language so this game is perfect! in the game I came in to the candle shop, stare purple candle and passed out and when I woke up, my gold was stolen I laughed out loud thanks MrMojoRisin Well-Known Member Jul 27, 2012 1,183 0 0 #7 MrMojoRisin, Jul 27, 2017 There is the option of permadeath as stated above, but also there are points on the map where the game "draws a card" from a "deck" based on the location you are in, so different things will happen to you in each play through. ZS77 Well-Known Member May 8, 2015 566 2 18 #8 ZS77, Jul 27, 2017 For anyone on the fence about this one, take a look on YouTube (Fighting Fantasy Legends gameplay) - there's at least 6 short but successive gameplay videos from nomad showing your progress through a town including side quests and a couple of fights - gives a good impression of how the game plays. pjft Well-Known Member Feb 15, 2011 1,082 8 38 #9 pjft, Jul 27, 2017 Thanks for the pointer, looks right up my alley. For example if I go in a house and opening a door to the left makes something attack me, will that always happen when choosing that door in that house? mzinn Well-Known Member Jan 5, 2014 770 0 16 #14 mzinn, Jul 28, 2017 Anyone have issues downloading the higher level graphics. I can't get it to finish. Tried most troubleshooting & no help. Checked my download speed & it seems a touch slow but good enough. Figure it may be an issue on my end. Just wondering if others had the issue as well. ZS77 Well-Known Member May 8, 2015 566 2 18 #15 ZS77, Jul 28, 2017 Not sure but probably, given that the game follows the same structure as game books ie if you choose to turn left every time you reach page 83, the outcome will always be the same. I would be pleasantly surprised if the game decided to randomise encounters to mix things up though. I guess the pulling an event/monster card from a deck is a means of changing things up a bit. Roleki Well-Known Member Aug 11, 2012 432 0 0 #16 Roleki, Jul 28, 2017 Where does it say that the game follows the same structure as the book? What I read in the description was "Thousands of choices ensure that no two games are ever the same." Since it uses cards and pulls from three books, I'd say there's a $hitload of replayability in this game. Like someone else mentioned though, I'm still concerned that the text size might be too small on a mobile device for an older dude like myself... Talisman (also by these guys) was too small for me, but was great on iPad. Even pleasantly obscured by adventure/rpg graphics and the illusion of choice, FFL's rigid gamebook structures (semi-predetermined paths, choke points...) make the experience very loopish and repetitive... There are a lot of procure item sub-quests in towns, and the inability to backtrack after a wrong turn usually means you have to exit the town, often through multiple combat encounters, just to reenter and try again. The events/encounters and battle system are simple dice-based affairs. You usually roll a large number of dice, but initially they are blank with one active face. "Leveling up" consists of adding more active faces to your skill (battle) or luck (event outcome) dice, to slowly skew probability in your favor. Gear and item cards also impart slight advantages. The "every adventure is different" aspect is a bit overstated as the random events/encounters are drawn from a limited set and most map location functions are static. All of that aside, I'm enjoying the game and will likely finish it. Edit: The game is a lot more fun in areas like Firetop Mountain. There are more events and paths to take... nkx Well-Known Member May 9, 2015 672 0 16 #19 nkx, Jul 29, 2017 Thanks for the review going to stay on the fence not too excited after reading this. I'd like to hear the perspective of someone who has played TMG's versions of the books that make up the whole of FFL and other similar games like Sorcery before I jump in. This game looks really cool, I think it's just coming a little too close to TWoFTM and in a period where some really awesome premium stuff like Neo Scavenger, Miracle Merchant, etc are dropping.
