Ever since I finished Legend Dary I've been wanting to pick up an epic platformer. My only prerequisite is it must be widescreen compatible. I only play platformers on iPhone and those black bars kill it for me. I tried to replay Miss Clair Garden and couldn't do it. Any suggestions? Is there one that just wowed you recently?
Penumbear 14px Commander Pixman Mini Dash Incoboto The Honeycomb Jet Car Stunts 2 is essentially a precision platfomer with rocket cars Shadow Blade is coming out in little over a week, and it looks excellent
Stealth Inc. Metal Gear meets Super Meat Boy. Pure Awesomeness. Closest thing I could compare it to on iOS is League of Evil. It blows the whole trilogy away though.
I like Freedom Fall and would recommend it. If you haven't seen it in action you might want to watch a video of it. It didn't feel like a traditional platformer to me. Maybe in part because of your goal being to move from up to down rather than left to right. It is like a "jump" (doodle jump, sonic, etc) in reverse with platformer styled controls. On that note, the controls are very good and I never felt like I was fighting against them.
Recommend this one as well. Haven't played the IOS version, but it's excellent on PC +1 Freedom Fall is another great platformer Also check out Type Rider. It isn't the most difficult game, but the atmosphere and very inventive level design make it more about the journey and experience than difficulty
I played TypeRider and I agree 100%. The controls were responsive and it was a visual treat to behold. Highly recommended.
The two best platformers I've played on iOS are Swordigo and Incoboto, but I'm sure you've checked them out already.
Check out Rogue Sky. It's older, and it's not a platformer in the traditional sense, but it has that type of feel. None of these three have an ounce of IAP whatsoever. Shadow Blade also looks awesome. I am so glad it isn't a runner.
Alright i've got a fair few platformers in my folders, these are PROPER platformers none of these 'runner' type games people call platformers, as for widescreen i'm unsure as i've got so many but the ones i have are... Dracula Twins - A great looking game, annoying theres no resume points though on levels 80's World - Very retro, i love it Lazy Caverns - Same dev, very retro Caverns 2 - And one more, very retro ! Storm in a teacup - A classic Commander Pixman - Nice retro graphics Meganoid - Difficult but addictive Meganoid 2 - Same as above INC - Nice underated game Rico - Love it, retro graphics, large scrolling levels, boss battles Mutant Mudds - Great SNES style graphics Limbo - Great graphic style, some tricky situations ! Apple Dash - A very underated polished game Roboto - A great game Cordy - A great game Paper Monsters - One of my favourites, amazing graphics, lots of levels, well worth picking up Little Acorns - very underated a great game Fancy Pants - A good game, large levels Random Heroes Kid Vector Run Kitty Run Commander Cool Wacoon! Mos Speedrun Kale in Dinoland - Looks like an old Gameboy game, love it Stardash - Again looks like a gameboy game, played this to the end, very tricky later ! PDA Games - Underated, lots of single screens to get through, plays well Awesome Land Leps World 1 and 2 Pizza Boy I've got many others but these are some of my favourites
I had a lot of fun with these games, all published by Chillingo. They are regular platformers, regular because how they move... they are brilliant gameplay-wise. A bit old but a blast. Max and the Magic Marker Fancy Pants Adventures CreaVures Blobster Storm in a Teacup And the newest release: Icycle.
Great shout, forgot about that game, very bizzare/surreal/abstract, its a great game, makes a nice change from the usual type of platformer
Great lists but most are not widescreen, some of PSJ's were. I think my biggest wish list for widescreen are Robot Wants Kitty, Fancy Pants, Little Acorns, Kale, Stardash, Pizzaboy, and Roboto. Really loved those games, sad to see them abandoned.
