CatSpin is a puzzle/adventure game with a whole new spin to it! Our hero’s name is Neko. His cool hat might make him look a bit mysterious, but it’s just something random he came up with while dreaming this whole adventure. After running around and playing the whole day, Neko goes home to get some rest. Soon he is dreaming about a world full of lucky coins and he wants to collect them all! It seems that every time he collects all the lucky coins around, a magical door opens and he is able to go to another room. To his surprise the next rooms also have coins in them. Neko’s curious about how many rooms there could be and how many lucky coins he will be able to get. And that is where you step in! You can help Neko by controlling him through the world! And not only that; you can control the world itself! By rotating it round and round, using either the virtual buttons or the accelerometer, you make sure Neko is able to get to places that he would otherwise not have been able to reach. But watch out! When you rotate, keep in mind that fire always wants to burn up, rocks always fall down and wind keeps coming from the sides; this might just do all kinds of funky stuff! Try beating the highest score for every level on the online Leaderboards! This adventure/puzzle is perfect for speedruns! Will Neko find out how many rooms there are? Will he get all the lucky coins? Let’s find out! It's fun to see somebody starting a thread on this even though I haven't sent out the pressrelease to toucharcade yet :O I am the founder of Phure Studios ^_^ I sent somebody a promocode here; he should be putting up a review soon! We also submitted a Lite version of the game today; it's being reviewed by Apple as we speak! The Lite version is of course free to play and has ten levels and still got both touchscreen and accelerometer controls included! Please enjoy our game! I just played through the first few levels of CatSpin and I am liking it. The goal of the game is to get from point A to point B by moving yourself and the world around you while collecting coins. Each level has a timer which saves your best scores. There are also two control options: touch or accelerometer. Have you considered implementing OpenFeint with achievements? Kusanagi Well-Known Member Apr 1, 2010 93 1 8 http://www.phurestudios.com #5 Kusanagi, Apr 1, 2010 Yes! In fact we are planning to implement online leaderboards and extra content, but right now it already has lots of stuff: 50 levels which you can try with touchscreen first and when you finished all the levels you should try the accelerometer as well! Somehow that's like playing 50 levels at least twice! When you finished all that you can track your 5 best times on each level and try and beat those: that'll keep you busy for a while! ^^ Personally I love online stuff and I love that we can update our apps, so if CatSpin does well enough, we'll make sure to update it with online leaderboards and achievements! Kusanagi Well-Known Member Apr 1, 2010 93 1 8 http://www.phurestudios.com #6 Kusanagi, Apr 1, 2010 What I should add is that a Lite version will come out somewhere in the next few days! It has all the control settings from the full version, but instead of 50 levels, it only has 10 instead. The Lite version is of course FREE to download! Please look forward to it ^^ bmn0210 Well-Known Member Feb 13, 2010 367 0 0 #7 bmn0210, Apr 1, 2010 Maybe it's just me, but the graphics in that first screenshot remind me a little of Super Mario World. Looks interesting. Although...one thing that's important to me is the ability to listen to my own music during the game - is there an option for that? Kusanagi Well-Known Member Apr 1, 2010 93 1 8 http://www.phurestudios.com #8 Kusanagi, Apr 3, 2010 That's actually a good suggestion and one more reason of why I love being able to update our apps! In Catspin you play as a cat named Neko. Neko is having a dream where he is in a room trying to collect as many lucky coins as he can. Once he collects them all a door unlocks and he ends up in a new room with the same goal of gathering all of the new lucky coins and escaping. Neko soon comes to realize that he is in a world with several rooms and has to see just how many he can escape from and how many coins he can ultimately end up with. Kind of a fun theme to go with the gameplay, but the story is just a backdrop and at heart this game is a puzzle game, similar in concept to games like Ynth and Turn: Episode 1, and Eden. You control the world that Neko is in and most of his movements by rotating the screen/environment that he is in. You have a choice of using touch controls or accelerometer controls, I prefer to go with the touch for this game but both options work fine. Neko can move left and right with directional arrows and there is a jump button. There are 2 rotate buttons, one for rotating the screen left and one for rotating right. The only difference to the accelerometer control option is that you can turn your device to rotate instead of pressing rotate buttons. The gameplay premise is simple, as stated previously when describing the theme of the game.. you have to find a way to collect all the coins scattered about in each room to unlock the door and then safely reach it to exit. Sounds easy enough, however there are usually several objects, obstacles, and dangers in the way as you move about the room. Some of these objects and dangers can be manipulated and used to your advantage by rotating the screen. So the objects/dangers can either be your best friend or worst enemy, depending on the situation you're in at the time and how you deal with them. The game requires a little thinking and is deeper than it appears. Some of the things your character will have to deal with while trying to reach certain areas are spikes, falling logs, burning logs, fire from pipes, spinning propellers, blockades, and hatches that can only be opened by activating a timed red button elsewhere in the room. Most of the time you will be trying to avoid anything in your way just to get to where you have to go. There are some strange and unreal physics used in the game, and oddly they make the gameplay better in an arcadey way. One thing that's good about them is that your character will pause in midair by rotating, and he doesn't fall immediately afterward giving you a bit of extra time to react to where you're heading. Also, when you are falling you can move left and right and sort of navigate around a little if you need to. This is extremely helpful for reaching certain areas. If at any point during the game your character falls off the screen, gets hit in the head with a falling object or makes contact with any immediate danger you will have to restart the level. The game autosaves your progress after completing each level. It will also record your best time for each level, and there is a personal high scores list so you can keep track of and view your best times. There is a level select screen at the start and once you complete each level once they will unlock so they can be replayed again if you want to go for a better time. The graphics of this game are a little on the small side. Not that big of a deal because the gameplay is where its at and for the most part the gameplay is good. The background music accompanying the gameplay is both quirky and groovy, and it fits to the theme. This game runs smooth on my 3GS. Overall - Very enjoyable and recommended to puzzle game fans. The game has a nice arcade-like touch to it, and its a fun puzzle game that should not be overlooked. I give it an 8/10. I get that 0,99 is most popular, but sometimes that just isn't always possible... Even so; the support is great and that's why we are going to update CatSpin with online scores and leaderboards through OpenFeint and we're also designing and implementing 25 extra levels making a total of 75 levels in the full version! For those who don't know: you have the ability to choose touchscreen buttons or accelerometer controls in the settings... we'll make this more clear in a future update. The whole presentation around the main gameplay is going to change as well and menu's will be prettier.
