I mean, I'm only buying it now because of the sale, and thank you and everything, but nothing chaps my ass worse than when a developer gives the middle finger to it's earliest and most loyal supporters by putting a game on sale shortly after it's release. But when people see "50% off limited time launch sale" - they expect that the price is going to go up after that... not down. Anyway... It's a great game... if you don't have it yet... you should get it... even if you don't like word games. But yeah, I've never been the one to complain about AppStore prices. Downright silly for games that cost less than a few dollars in the first place. the9quad Well-Known Member Apr 27, 2011 968 0 0 #6 the9quad, Nov 17, 2011 I bought it at launch was worth the 2 dollars, and they need to eat too, so idc if they drop the price to make more money. It's not like buying a house, it's 2 dollars. medianotzu Well-Known Member Nov 21, 2009 3,803 9 36 #7 medianotzu, Nov 17, 2011 Who cares about the price drop--this game is brilliant. It's a steal at $2, and even moreso at $1. UmbraVir Well-Known Member Sep 4, 2011 491 0 0 Student CT #8 UmbraVir, Nov 17, 2011 Should a guy who's not really into word games get this? Agas Well-Known Member Jan 28, 2011 2,347 0 0 #9 Agas, Nov 17, 2011 For $1 get this, I think it's better than those two. I sort of held off on getting the game with the back log of games I had but was nervous I was going to miss out on THAT "sale." I really hate when devs have the pre-sale sale. Misguided Well-Known Member Jan 27, 2009 2,346 19 38 #12 Misguided, Nov 17, 2011 They got picked as app of the week. I don't blame them for having a sale. I am also not remotely upset about it because the game is fantastic. Definitely the most interesting word game I've played on an iDevice. awp69 Well-Known Member Oct 30, 2009 8,249 0 36 Greenville, SC #13 awp69, Nov 17, 2011 It's definately better than Wooords. I liked that game, but this is more addicting IMO. Like Agas mentioned, you don't have the pressure of time-limits but you do have limited swaps (which go up if you get words). I still finding it pretty challenging, but fun! awp69 Well-Known Member Oct 30, 2009 8,249 0 36 Greenville, SC #14 awp69, Nov 17, 2011 Agreed. But I guess I'm starting to get hardened by all the crap that other devs are doing, that this doesn't faze me as much anymore. I figure I lose some and win some with price changes. It's stuff like misleading descriptions/IAPs, paid apps going freemium and ads being put into games even after people paid for them that are annoying me the most. Just seems to get worse as far as devs and early supporters of them. But the App Store's economy is a big part of the problem. Anyway, I was about to jump on the $1.99 "sale" and snagged this one for $.99. But I've been on the other end more often than not. drelbs Well-Known Member Jun 25, 2009 11,200 7 38 #15 drelbs, Nov 17, 2011 <rant> Totally agree to both. They way I see it is that the prices change all the time and there are games I want NAOW and games that I can wait for. AppShopper does a great job helping me with that. I think it's darn cheezy to see an app drop from it's "sale" price, but if I had a game picked Game of the Week by Apple, I'd sure as hell drop the price and mention APPLE GAME OF THE WEEK ULTRA MEGA SALE all over my app description. Major kudos to Tin Man Games for contacting those who bought GA "7" during the "sale" period before it went $0.99 for Halloween to apologize and offer a code for their next game. BOO to those who went free and added iAds after having been a paid app. (Nothing gets me to delete an app faster than non-removable adds! ) </rant> BTW, WELDER is a great word game all around, easily worth the two bucks and a bargain at $0.99! andsoitgoes Well-Known Member Jun 30, 2010 2,673 58 48 In a van, down by the river! #16 andsoitgoes, Nov 17, 2011 I jumped because of the sale. To then drop it more, that's a bit questionable. I'd be much more upset if I'd paid $2.99 for it and it dropped to $0.99 shortly after. However giving the devs an extra buck for a game that is this quality, I have no qualms. Quazonk Well-Known Member Mar 30, 2011 1,102 4 38 #17 Quazonk, Nov 17, 2011 It's not a matter of price, it's a matter of ethics. I don't care if it's 2 dollars or 2 thousand. the loafer Well-Known Member Feb 1, 2011 76 0 6 #18 the loafer, Nov 18, 2011 People really need to get that if you don't stay visible on the appstore, you die. There's been a lot of great games and fortunately for us, many sales. But those sales also take away from other great games and the only way to compete, to stay visible, is to do a sale themselves. What do you want the devs to do? Raise the price back to the planned $3.99? That's suicide if you think about it for a minute. I bought the game at $2, and I'd have paid $5 for it. It's a great game. If my fellow man gets to buy it at $1, then I'm happy for him; THAT is the only ethics I'm interested in. Buying a game should not matter on what you "might" pay for it just on whatever price you see and its up to you to determine "is this good value for me". If it is, pull the trigger, if its not, wait until it reaches your game. Jeez, we're talking about $1-$4 games, not AAA $60 games. For the record, I've put in more hours in W.E.L.D.E.R. than a lot of those $60 console games. It's fantastic, buy it at whatever price you want, but BUY IT! Thanks for the sale, I took the opportunity to gift it to my eldest daughter. Gabrien Well-Known Member Nov 24, 2009 5,148 0 36 #19 Gabrien, Nov 18, 2011 So let's recap: A developer plans to price their game at $4. But! Decides to have a 50% off sale at launch. The game does really well and gains a lot of exposure. So now you're saying it's logical to drop the price more? So if the game had done badly it would have been logical to raise its price "as planned?" Doesn't make much sense, does it? How about this: ALL X% off sales (as well as their various "dedications") are nothing more than a shallow marketing ploy designed to get you to spend your money NOW. Does that make a little more sense? Any developer is free to choose whether to exercise integrity or pursue the buck at any cost. It's perfectly clear which choice this dev made, and hardly debatable. Yes their game is great, yes it's "worth" it's asking price times over, but that is beside the point. Misguided Well-Known Member Jan 27, 2009 2,346 19 38 #20 Misguided, Nov 18, 2011 I don't think it is that difficult to understand (this is sheer supposition on my part, btw). Welder has gotten wider exposure than they dared to dream possible, therefore they chose to capitalize on that by hitting the impulse price of as many people as possible to capture that larger audience. Personally, I don't think there's any shenanigans here, but I suppose people have the right to be angry over a price drop of a dollar if they want. I'm happy for the success the developer is experiencing and I hope it sells like hotcakes and we see more projects from them in the future. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
