Hey guys, our new sci-fi shooter Galaxy on Fire - Manticore RISING is out now on the App Store on the new Apple TV. A full-fledged Apple TV exclusive, the game's handling and gameplay are tailored to the big screen and the Siri Remote. Although we have to confess that we were a little sceptical at first when it came to transfering GOF's touchscreen controls to a physical motion-and-touch controller, we have to say that it turned out a perfect match. Commanding your ship and engaging in dog fights on the new Apple TV is really great fun! If you already had a chance to check it out (the Apple TV goes on sale in 5 minutes here in Germany, but maybe it's already out in other time zones), please let us know in the comments what you think of it!

Manticore RISING is the official prologue to the upcoming mobile game Galaxy on Fire 3 - Manticore. It's set in the same game world -- the fabled Neox Sector -- and its events directly lead up to the conflict of the mobile game.

And if you're curious to learn more about the game, visit the official website (http://www.gofrising.com) and follow the game's fan pages on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/gof3manticore), Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/gof3manticore) and Instagram (http://www.instagram.com/gof3manticore). Additionally, we also uploaded a new gameplay trailer to YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7iR4iOYjEg). Enjoy!

In terms of performance, is Apple TV equal to an iPad Air 2 or less?

Less the Apple tv has a duel core A8 chip the iPad Air 2 has an A8X chip it is tri-core (3cores) with a better custom graphics chip.

But without the thermal constraint of a mobile device, maybe it can do better :)

Oh im sure it will be slightly faster just dont expect the performance to be on par with a A8X, A9, or a tegra X1 chip specially in the graphics department. Both the Tegra X1 and A9 have really good graphics performance.

I didn't realize this was an appleTV exclusive. It sounds like the full game will run on mobile, though. I really liked GOF2 a lot!

This game has MFi support on launch, but it was broken and got removed? Anyone know if they're gonna fix it?

Took some practice, but I'm more or less used to the remote now, but I'm curious as to whether the game is a big series of waves or if it opens up into more of a open world experience like the other GOFs, where you can upgrade your ship, take quests, etc. don't get me wrong, it's fun so far, but I'd like to know for sure.

This game is a teaser for the full GoF III that is coming soon. Don't expect any more depth beyond a bit of story and enemy waves. It was probably only made to have something in the Apple TV store on day one.
As for the controller support, it was terrible on release and got pulled. Hopefully it will be fixed and return soon.

Can someone ping me when this has proper MFI support? Not going to fork out the money for it until it does. Loved the previous GoF on iPad.

Sorry, guys. Kinda overlooked this thread lately. In the meantime, we put out an update adding support for alternate game controllers such as the Steelseries Nexus. Yesterday, we also added some new content to Manticore RISING, namely a Christmas level. With an "ugly sweater"-styled ship painting and jingle-bells-y auto-cannon sounds, it is of course not meant to be taken serious at all. But hey... 'tis not the time to be all grave and earnest! So we hope you enjoy this little flight through the Trim sector's winter wonderland. ;)

Also, we published a couple of blogs dealing with various key features and aspects of Manticore RISING. Here's the links in case you're curious.

Thanks for making this game for AppleTV. I've had an AppleTV since they first came out (the one with the hard drive) and love it. My only complaint was there was no App Store, a problem now solved.

I love Spaceflight games and bought the original Galaxy On Fire for my iPhone when the game was first available.

Also, thanks for adding controller support - the Siri Remote as a game controller is abysmal.

Will you be making your older games (which I already own) AppleTV compatible without purchasing them over again?

Any hope of making this a universal app?? I hope too many developers don't overlook universal as an incredible differentiator from console games. It seems dated in 2015 that my Xbox One games are stuck at home. The future is -- no doubt to me -- having constant access to your game (scary thought!) and competing against your friends, no matter what device they play.
