What are the benefits? binaryhelix Well-Known Member Oct 15, 2011 188 0 16 #3 binaryhelix, Aug 16, 2012 I don't think iOS Dangerous was ever priced that high unless you bought a desktop version. If you've got the horsepower, the HD graphics are nice (planets/stars/moons are hi-res and animated, and some display options can go a step above "high" to "ultra-high"). Otherwise, you're fine with the SD version which was also upgraded to 1.1.0. Check out the free Dangerous HD Lite version first if you're on the fence. Some of the big new features of version 1.1.0: - exhaust, smoke, sparks, bigger and better explosions - radial menu for autopilot and wing control; also available for modules - better and simpler autopilot (both legs merged into one, so a simple dock or warp is all it takes) - cloud save/load, can save to multiple local slots now, new autosave slot - new shortcuts wheel and streamlined UI - lots of fixes to dynamic quests, routes, etc. Check the changelog on iTunes or our site for details. For those on the fence there's never been a better time to get this, the streamlined interface helps getting into the game too (albeit I have been playing the SD for months now on and off). While we are often told that "mobile gaming" lack any sophistication and depth it's great to a developer that provides exactly that , bucking the trend that surely would earn them far more money. Anyway, you have at least one rabid and slightly aged fan! Best of luck and I hope it gets the sales it throughy deserves. wicro Well-Known Member Oct 2, 2011 49 0 6 Scotland #6 wicro, Aug 17, 2012 Great work in the HD version , although I am still coming to grips with the new interface I think long term I will prefer it. I especially like the quick access to the co pilots. Some of the vistas looking simply stunning now, really immersive and I still can't believe I am playing this on a mobile device. Speaking of which , the accepted wisdom seems to point to that this type of platform cannot cope with a sophisticated and deep game, thank you for not only proving this wrong but providing hours of entertainment to boot. I truly hope this iteration is a glowing success, it thoroughly deserves to be. I didn't see this the first time around (SD version) but will grab the free demo and very likely grab the full HD soon after. I LOVE that iOS is the new home for "lost" genres like space shooters, adventure games, and 4x strategy. binaryhelix Well-Known Member Oct 15, 2011 188 0 16 #10 binaryhelix, Aug 17, 2012 We love rabid fans! Thanks for the glowing compliments! Unfortunately, it seems very few iOS review sites (currently none) are willing to give Dangerous more than a cursory glance even after all the visual FX enhancements and streamlining we've accomplished. Not so much as a peep on the game's launch. Maybe it's too soon to tell, but they seem content to mention and review only the big publishers and casual games (including the 100th Temple Run knock-off). I think mobile gamers are ready for deep desktop-quality games, so I admit it's been discouraging. Crossing our fingers, but there were only 40 sales on launch day (yesterday), and it typically goes downhill from there without some press. We did get 900 lite installs, so we'll see how the conversion rate goes. But it's probably time for some guerrilla marketing tactics. I just checked the history on appshopper, and you're both right. My bad. It was judiciously cut off before the pan went down to the "bottom" in case young eyes watched the trailer... At least in the game, it's all there... I think the platform and the player base are ready for deeper and more mature games. Hope you enjoy it! bune Well-Known Member Jan 14, 2012 61 0 0 #11 bune, Aug 17, 2012 Great game, wish there were more games like this for IOS. Getting the HD version now, it looks much better than the SD I have been playing for a while now. Now I'm just left with wishing that there were even more ships to choose from. I hope more people give it a try and the game gets more press, I really enjoyed it. Krebmart Member Jun 11, 2012 19 0 0 #12 Krebmart, Aug 17, 2012 Bought this since it is a genre I enjoy, and because you were the guy behind CopperDiku. But my LORD is the interface in this game complicated! I had to restart the game 4 times just to figure out how the heck to use the turrets. Honestly, this game needs a much more step-by-step introduction. I mean, I ended the tutorial in a space station and now there are dozens of menus and easily hundreds of options, most of which I have no idea what they mean. I'll stick with it because it looks interesting, but I felt a bit like I did after buying X3 Reunion - completely clueless as to what the heck I was supposed to do. For what it is worth, I've never gone back to X3. I like deep games, but it shouldn't take me hours just to figure out how to play. Screw you BinaryHelix. I purchased your game at release, no 99 cent app, and haven't even had it on my device for more than 5 minutes because, while your vision may be grand, the implementation certainly isn't. I've reinstalled and re-uninstalled, hoping you would eventually decide to fix this beta release. The GUI, the font size-possibly the smallest font viewable by the naked eye, the lack of any reference material in app past the lousy tutorial. Then you release a seperate, universal, HD version, instead of releasing it as an update. Yeah, I know, file size...as if your ambitions for this game could have ever resulted in a small file. Of course, an update wouldn't make you any more money. binaryhelix Well-Known Member Oct 15, 2011 188 0 16 #16 binaryhelix, Oct 18, 2012 (Greyskull, grab the latest version and let us know if that fixes your problem.) Version 1.2.0 is now live. It has an even more streamlined UI with fewer buttons. The lock button has been moved to the shortcuts wheel for example. Some much depth, it's amazing. You need to advertise more. At first I bought normal version, I found the font too small on my iPad 3 then realised there was a HD version. File is much bigger. I can tell graphics are enhanced but is it me of the fonts still look the same ? I won't go into the money argument here, but from what I've seen in other thread and on your website there was some commotion when you released hd version separately. I think most devs did the same when they transitioned their games to retina. However what's the point to keep the non-retina version in there. Just keep the HD one, lower its price to 3.99 to attract more players. I need to play more to give you some feedback. Good thing that you are still supporting the game. Most devs give up at some point. Please keep at it. PS: there is a post on your website by Elite fan (March 18, 2012), Have you addressed most of the complaints he raised ? Many people mention the map. I only spent a few secs with it but no zoom in or out, really ? Thanks again for what seems to be the best elite/eve title in the appstore. Greyskull Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2009 5,588 1 38 Photographer/Social Sciences adjunct/sweet sweet l Fort Lauderdale #18 Greyskull, Nov 4, 2012 Well, you'll have trouble selling it at this price point. Hopefully people will check the SD reviews, as I intend to leave a rather harsh one. I mever ask for free expansions; this is different. The game was not cheap, but it was nearly unplayable. HD should be a free upgrade; at the very least because early adopters like me essentially paid you to beta test this game. 99% of games I've purchased that recieved updated graphics had them applied as updates. Other games which have 2 versions, both playable on an iPhone, release both versions comcurrently. That way people have a choice. Look at Wimp: where's my pants. Or GOF2. GOF2 might have released the HD version after the SD version, I can't quite remember. But I remember that they at least told potential customers that an HD was on the horizon. Furthermore, they componsated purchasers of the SD version by giving away the Valkarie expansion for free to thoso who bought both. I'll send you my reciept. If you have a promo code, ship it here. Then I'll reconsider the review I'm about to leave. Alex DeLargest Well-Known Member Dec 16, 2010 344 119 43 Male USA/France #19 Alex DeLargest, Nov 4, 2012 Yeah, you guys really screwed the pooch on this. I bought the SD on initial release because it seemed ambitious and promising. I've never played too far, because it lacked polish and felt like a chore. Your game was and largely still is a buggy, confusing mess. Also, this is a very complex game and you have yet to assemble a comprehensive manual. I mean, between all of this and your constant pricing shenanigans, it is no surprise that it garnered few reviews or downloads. So, to make up for the fact that you bungled the release of a product that was beta state at best, you guys cleaned it up a bit, added HD textures, and released the game again as a new product. That is bull####. I paid to beta test a buggy, ugly, confusing game. As an example of its lack of polish, the friggin spash screen, literally the first thing people see upon starting your game, was at the wrong aspect ratio and orientation for at least six months. Then when the game started finally approaching the state at which one would expect a released product, you added HD textures and released it as a new product, leaving your early supporters/paying beta testers with your ugly SD textures that frankly make a ugly game even uglier. I know that you guys are losing your shirts on this game, and frankly given the way you have handled the release and updating and the way that you've jerked around your few fans, I am not surprised nor sympathetic.
