Warning : this game wil be very difficult, and might cause seizures. 1-Bit Hero is a retro-looking platformer, featuring a character that can't stand still. The gameplay is unique (AFAIK), with buttonless controls tailored to touchscreens - I know that sounds vague, but I don't want to give out too much details yet. First release will have 20 brutally difficult and unforgiving levels. The game is nearly done and will be submitted in less than a week on both iOS and Android. I have some beta-testers, but could always use more. More info coming soon!
I always love a good game that can cause seizures. I'm serious I love trippy things. I'm interested. How much will it cost?
I'm thinking about having two versions. One will be free and ad-supported (with a $0.99 IAP to remove ads), and the other will cost $0.99, without any ads or IAP. I'm currently working on adding some more obstacles and designing the final levels.
Love the very very retro graphics. Bit nervous of the control scheme, prefer the standard one for platformers
I get where you're coming from, but there's no need to be nervous about the controls. I got that covered. I'm more nervous that people will want to crucify me because of the difficulty level
I can't really say, because app store review times are at an all time high. I hope to submit by the end of the weekend. It will be out sooner on Android, because there's no review process.
Haha, fantastic. Are you planning to release it on calculators and watches too? More retro than retro, with 8 times less bits! Keep up the good work.
Lol, too much device fragmentation in the calculator and watch market Game is finished, but I'm waiting for some artwork for the icon etc.
This looks incredible! It is likely to be my new favorite game based on the screenshots alone. Is there a projected release date? I am feeling impatient ... EDIT: Please sign me up for the Beta Test!
Glad you like what you're seeing As for the release date, my artist should have my icon done by Thursday (we're going for an 80s box art look). After that, it will depend on app store review times - it's currently still 11 days on average.
The free version will be another welcome addition to my retro folder no idea if it'll be worth spending money on - games this basic often aren't but I am open to anything!
I got my hands on the Beta (much thanks to the Dev for letting me on board) and I am really enamored with 1-Bit Hero. It has proved during actual gameplay to be just as enticing as the initial screenshots. The retro aesthetic is exceedingly well done with a combination of subtle strobing textures and alternating light and dark amber and grayscale color schemes (so far, as there appear to be others in later levels) set to a compelling chiptune soundtrack. I am just a few levels in and find them to be brief but challenging without being overwhelming or frustrating. Your Hero walks automatically and can be manipulated with two precise and responsive controls. From these simple controls a surprisingly full platforming experience is unfolding. The objective is to get from point A to door B while avoiding a variety of moving enemies and obstacles. So far the terrain is a dungeon replete with vertical and horizontal movement and moving platforms. 1-Bit Hero is truly an accomplishment of simplicity, elegance, and retro aesthetics.
Glad you're enjoying it so much! As for the difficulty level not being overwhelming, well, I decided to tone it down a little for the first few levels
That was probably a wise decision as I am really starting to feel the burn on level 7 - I got some color as well!
1-Bit Hero and the Premium Edition have finally been submitted to Apple. Here's our 80's boxart style artwork (which will also be the icon) : I'll be working on a trailer and post it soon.
