I've lowered the price on Big Bad Sudoku Book to .99 cents (USA price). Don't know how long I'll leave it there so get it while you can. (The normal price has been $2.99.) We are in the labs putting the finishing touches on version 3, which we believe will make it the best Sudoku game out there. Version 3 should be available later this month and will add several smaller features that users have requested, plus a couple of bigger features that we're keeping under wraps until it's ready. Big Bad Sudoku Book is a universal app for iPhones, iPod Touches and iPads.
I personally like the UI of BBSB better than any other Sudoku app I have played. I anchor the ring in the lower right hand corner, and it is super easy to place pen or pencil marks merely by touching the number or the the little gold nib. Everyone else has a separate number line for pen and pencil so multiple touches are needed. Also, if you change back and forth from auto pencil to manual, all the old pencil marks are still there, and the competition erases all the old pencil marks if you decide to turn off auto pencil marks. I'll be looking forward to version 3! I really liked the 50 challenges that were there. I think that having something goal oriented is always a good thing (probably why achievements are so popular)... The only thing I still can't figure is that I find solving the "hard" puzzles the hardest, and the expert and insane are easier for me... Anyways, a great version of Sudoku.

Has been ranked as the #1 app in the overall iPad chart in 10 countries including the United States. A top 10 game in 72 countries! It's been called the "Best Sudoku Game on ANY platform". Sudoku Book is an essential game for every iPhone or iPad. It's been featured by Apple in What's Hot, New and Noteworthy, Game Center Games, Game Starter Kit, and recently in Popular Puzzlers. If you like Sudoku you have to try Big Bad Sudoku Book. It's our opinion that many other versions of the game sort of take the fun out of it. They won't let you enter in wrong numbers, and if you ask for a hint they straight up give you the answer to a cell. Why not just put up a puzzle and solve it for you? I'll tell you why, cause that's not fun! Our approach is a lot different. Our hints guide you to answers without flat out giving it away. We provide the tools you need to solve the puzzle with your brain, just like a real paper sudoku book but better! *** "If Apple made a sudoku game I think it would look like this" - Dytavio *** Change The Look!! Version 3 adds a fun twist on the classic game with new downloadable themes and challenging new puzzle book campaigns. But this is not a freemium app.. Sudoku Book's core functionality is all included. It has unlimited free play in all levels and all the same features as the previous version plus more. *** "The whole look is perfect... This is the best sudoku interface of the five sudoku apps I have downloaded. I suspect the rest will be removed from my iPad" - GrayerBeard *** Puzzle scoring brings an arcade game feel to sudoku and provides a metric for challenges. Sudoku Book uses an exclusive method of scoring games based on the difficulty of each answer - not based on time. Now there are two parts to the puzzle, how to solve it and how to get a higher score. We listen to our users and have added many features based on user requests. Tech support is available within the app as a direct email to the developer. And we respond. Already in version 3 we've been in contact with many users and are fixing things based on their input. *** The "Best Sudoku got better. Still the most like pen and paper. I love the interface. New changes made the best better." - pluto6 *** Sudoku Book 3 adds new puzzle types and a new difficulty level. All puzzles are guaranteed to have a single solution and be solvable without guessing. Harder puzzles do require some advanced solving techniques. Also added are many new user requested features like auto removal of marks, number counts (how many of each number is on the board), and the ability to turn off manual highlighting and the mistake smudges. Thanks for the nice words. 2011 was an interesting year - both personally and professionally. There was a lot of plotting and planning but nothing new hit the store. We hope to do a LOT more in 2012. I want to finally get this version out the door so I can start on the next game. Sorry if this isn't the right forum for this sort of tease.. and later I'll do something more official. But to give you an sneak peek of what version 3 will bring... The campaign mode has been replaced with Puzzle Books, so that we can have many many 'campaigns'. Visually, we are introducing themes, which means you'll be able to switch out the look of the game at any time, even mid-puzzle. Then scores.. we are launching our own cloud based leader board and backup system.. wow I said too much... I'm working on finishing touches this weekend and hope to be releasing v3 mid-February. beachgirl Member Feb 11, 2012 12 0 0 #6 beachgirl, Feb 11, 2012 Badweasel- It all sounds very exciting! I wish you well! I tried to buy it in Itunes- yes, it shows it on sale for .99- but it says it is being modified. Have been trying for awhile- I really like Sudoku and want to give your app a whirl. I haven't been impressed w/ most of the Sudoku apps, other than "enjoy Sudoku." Looking forward to your work. beachgirl Member Feb 11, 2012 12 0 0 #7 beachgirl, Feb 12, 2012 Anyone else have trouble buying this? I've tried all day with no luck. badweasel Well-Known Member Apr 2, 2010 60 0 0 #8 badweasel, Feb 13, 2012 That is troublesome! When an app gets a temporary price change they can get stuck in "this item is being modified" and no one can download. It's happened to many apps recently. pluto6 Well-Known Member Jun 21, 2009 5,837 3 38 Military #11 pluto6, Feb 13, 2012 I hate timers as well. From the screen shots you can see the timer is unobtrusive. The timer actually just keeps time of your game length. So, it counts up, not down. There is actually a pretty complete option screen that allows you to turn the timer off among a number of other useful things - pen type, visual and auditory, etc. I don't think that time counts as part of the "score" but I could be wrong. beachgirl Member Feb 11, 2012 12 0 0 #12 beachgirl, Feb 14, 2012 That is exactly what happened- but happily, I was able to buy it Sunday afternoon! And have played one game...it took me a sec to figure out how to pencil in. Great app so far. badweasel Well-Known Member Apr 2, 2010 60 0 0 #13 badweasel, Feb 16, 2012 Time is not involved in the score at all. I think sudoku should be a leisurely played game. But the time is there and tracked in case you like it. Personally, when I play I turn it off. The score can also be turned off. In this next version I'm also adding a few other options: auto remove marks as you enter in numbers, a negative marks mode in case you'd rather use marks to mean that it's NOT a candidate. Auto number counts that tell you how many of each number is out there on the board. And I added a 3rd pen style that is much more convenient. The new downloadable themes are wonderful. I'm finishing up one now. Some of the downloadable content will be free and some will be paid, but since it is a paid game there will be plenty of free add ons to download.
